Try holding your legs there for a little while. That's what I had to do.. After a while, your legs will get used to it, and it'll become a lot easier to keep them there.

I believe what you are describing is not a true yoga pose, but a variation of several different poses. You need to work on the stretching and flexibility of your entire body a little more. What you are trying to accomplish requires every joint and muscle from your neck to your toes to be able to move and stretch, almost to their limits. You will know you have reached this stage when you can comfortably remain in the position for several minutes. Remember to keep breathing as well.
The first link shows a series of good stretching exercises for the whole body. The second link shows some advanced yoga poses.

ok, i have been in yoga for a long time and have always been really flexible. however, i know what you are talking about. it takes practice. there is no certain way to do it. what might be the way that one person does it, could hurt another. just work with it and find ways to tuck your head back and press with your legs. It might be difficult at first, but with practice, you will get it. just be patient

I am horribly out of shape, but I can just put my legs behind my head naturally.
Some people can just do it, other people have to practice at it. If you can't just do it, you need to practice at it. How you actually practice at it, you'd have to ask a yoga person because I don't know since I can just do it naturally.

Tuck them behind your neck and deal with the little bit of neck pain for now.

Just stretch reallly good before you try. You could also try having somebody holding you up for balance while you try to hold your legs in that position. Good luck!!!!
