I want to set up, if possible, some function keys or shortcuts with some names of characters for something I am writing. Is it possible to do this in word and does anybody know how to do it?

Thanks

That's great but how do I add or change my own text within the shortcut menus or do I have to add my own in somewhere else?

Curious, you get the points on this one. Had just figured out the macro side of things when I refreshed answers.

Thanks for the help, will drop you the points when the time limit has expired!

You'll have to record a macro, and assign it to a key.

To do this, go to Tools, Macros, Record New Macro. Click on the keyboard, and assign it to a key. Press the function key, then click Assign and Close.

Now, type the name you wish to assign (maybe with a space afterward). Stop recording by pressing the stop button on the recording toolbar.

Now, every time you press the key you programmed, it will type the name you wish.

I created a sample. If you look into the visual basic editor, you should have a macro that looks like this:

Sub type_Roger()
'
' type_Roger Macro
' Macro recorded 1/6/2007 by CuriousC
'
Selection.TypeText Text:="Roger "
End Sub

This macro types the name Roger every time I press a function key.
