I hear all this stuff about carbs. Good carbs...bad carbs..what kind of carbs are good?

For example, I am trying to lose weight so I am resticting my diet to eating foods that are low calorie and less than 30% calories from fat.

I was going ot have a bowl of jasmine rice for dinner (0 fat - 160 calories), but rice is a carb. Soo....should I eat jasmine rice, is it a "good carb" or what?

just limit your carbs to about 200-210 a day and you will be fine, you can have all the carbs you want just limit them to around 200 a day. You dont have to count carbs that are under 2 carbs. We need carbs in our bodies just like we do fruit and veggies. Controlling your carbs is really pretty easy, just dont eat, potatoes, bread or pasta all in the same day, or if you do eat small portions. I have lost over 80lbs. I am real careful at what I eat for breakfast and lunch and usually by supper I can eat whatever I want. Try to eat something every 2 hours. Just a small snack like nuts, yogurt, cheese, There are alot of low carb foods out there now. Dont worry about sugar or calories, just count the carbs. GOOD LUCK!

Unprocessed rice ( i.e. brown rice) is the best because it contains more fiber. Avoid the kind of white rice that cooks in 5 minutes. To be a good carb, it needs to be high in fiber ,unprocessed and low in sugar. Whole wheat bread and whole wheat pasta, brown rice, most vegetables, berries, almonds, cantalope and nectarines are some examples of good carbs. To determine the number of calories you should consume daily, decide how much you want to weigh and multiply that by 10 and you have the right number of daily calories necessary to attain your goal.

when looking at carbs you need to make sure you subtract the fiber. that will give you the true carbs. carbs in soup, fruit, and natural foods are good. i would avoid carbs in processed foods since those are "refined" carbs and limit my carbs that come from starches. your body needs carbs, regardless of what these fad diets tell you! check out this sites for more information definitely go to the first one!!!):

I've read Dr. Atkins books (he's all about NOT consuming carbs). Anyway they can help there.
