An upset stomach is a nasty thing for anyone. Give pedialyte to help keep him from getting dehydrated, ginger ale for nausea, and when he's hungry stick to a BRAT diet, bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. These are all easily digestable and are recommended for kids with stomach flu.

Let him just chill out at home. If he's vomiting, give him small amounts of clear fluids (pedialyte, flat ginger ale, flat coca-cola) often. A teaspoon full every ten minutes or so. Stay away from milk and juice - they can be harsh on a stomach and make any diarrhea worse. This will prevent dehydration. Once he doesn't vomit for 6-8 hours, increase the amount. After he goes 12 hours or more without vomiting, add back some bland solid foods. (crackers, pretzels, noodles, toast, mashed potatoes, etc.)

If he only has diarrhea, then avoid the milk and juices, and give him what they call the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce (NOT juice!) and Toast. Basically - anything starchy carbohydrates. (If it would make someone on the Atkins diet gag, give it!) =) You want to bind him up without constipating him,

IF he's vomiting profusely and doesn't urinate in 8 hours or is as lethargic as a wet noodle (there's a difference between not wanting to do anything and not being able to do anything) then he needs to see the doctor ASAP.

BTW - make sure he doesn't share drinking glasses or eating utenstils with anyone in the house and make sure everyone washes their hands frequently to lessen the chances of everyone else getting sick.

Good luck. I hope he feels better!

Try giving him warm, flat Coca-cola. This hydrates you and helps settle the belly. Be certain it can be flat, given that the carbonation is harder to manage. If he holds that down for an hour, provide him some Jell-O. Then transfer to the B.R.A.T. Weight loss program--bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. If he handles this meals, slowly reintroduce his traditional menu, with the exception of milk. Wait a pair days earlier than giving milk again. Stomach bugs cause temporary lactose intolerance. A better dairy meals for now's yogurt, due to the fact it replaces the good micro organism within the intestine. Hope he will get to feeling better!

Try the BRAT diet( Banana,Rice,Applesauce,Toast. ) Also some ginger ale would make him feel better.Chicken noodle soup is really good too.If he has a fever give him some popcicles. If he goes 12 hours without vomiting you can go back to solid foods. Also reading him and playing video games would make him feel better.I know it doesn't feel good to have a stomach flu.Especially when you are 5.I am 12 and I can't stand it.I am sure nobody likes it.(7 or 70)Hope it helps and hope he gets well soon.

Don't let him drink more than a few sips every 20 minutes or so until he can keep that down. Pedialite is a great drink for getting him back on his feet again, just get the flavored kind.
Just make sure you stay with him when he's getting sick so he'll feel like he's not alone.
I hope he feels better soon. It's so hard to see your baby feel like that.

If he is vomiting and has diarrhea then stay away from all sugared sodas at all costs. You are in danger of him becoming dehydrated so give him Gatorade (not too cold) in small sips. If he can handle that without getting sick, then give him small sips of chicken broth and try some dry toast, then start giving him rice and see how that settles. Also, I have given my kids plain selter/sparkling water. The bubbles help relieve the gas. Good luck!

I agree, BRAT diet and one thing that you should not do.....Ginger Ale. I know it is said to settle stomachs, but unfortunately, introducing soda will lead to a problem once he is well and it is very difficult to get kids off soda once you have given it to them!

If he has already had it prior to this, then you don;t need to worry about this one!

My 6 year old just got over it.

Doctor put him on the BRAT diet.
Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast

And flat ginger ale or pedialyte.

It was the only thing that would stay down.

Just keep him away from milk...that'll spell disaster. Go with freezie pops, clear (flat) sodas, and chicken noodle soup.
