Assume you are filling out your tax allowances. You can claim 0; pay more out of each paycheck but assures a nice refund at the end of the year. Can claim yourself = 1. Can claim your child if no one else is claiming that child as a dependent. Divorce papers should have that within the child support section. Suggest you claim 1 and then, if possible, claim 2 on your tax return. If your child was born before December 31st you can claim him/her on your 2006 return.

you should put single, but you can claim 0-5 you don't have to claim one. Claiming Zero will have you pay more in and get more back, in the end. The higher the number the less you pay in but the risk of having to pay the IRS is greater also. You would prolly benefit by putting 1.
