16 is very old for any dog. She may have a lot of pain, breathing problems? Dogs can be in an incredible amount of pain, and you may never know. They don't cry and seldom whimper. Take her to the vet but expect the vet to make you feel badly if you don't want every test known to man. They will probably tell you your dog is arthritic. Beware, be careful. At 16 a dog is very old and while she may have a few more years, some vets love this stage because they know they can bleed a lot out of you.

She probably doesn't feel well. She may have some health problems making it uncomfortable to go potty. You didn't say if it was urination or bowel movements or both? If she won't pee, get her checked for a Urinary Tract Infection, it could be that simple. Or she has arthritis which makes squatting painful.

Make sure she is on a good quality Senior dog food. These often have increased fiber which can help.

Keep her inside where you can watch her, and go outside with her when she acts like she has to go.

And if you haven't done so, TAKE HER TO THE VET for a Senior workup. There may be something simple.

Wow ur dog is sure healthy 2 haf lived that long. Dogs r suppose 2 pass away by 10 or 13 yrs old. She mite not wanna go out anymore because she's too old to move around. Take her to the vet to see what other fun you can do with a senior dog.
