Here's my idea.

Build the prisons and garbage dumps next to each other. When someone is sentenced, for say 6 years, the first 3 years of time is spent sorting all the garbage for recycling. The second half is learning a trade, or getting an education.

If they ever go back to prison after being released, the total sentence is spent sorting garbage.

Think anyone would want to go?

To get 'tough on crime' would call for a complete re-evaluation of the prison and police service in Britain. Currently, the amount of paperwork involved, overcrowding in prisons and strain on the police force means that getting tough just isn't possible. The governments approach seems aimed more towards rehabilitation rather than punishment. Whether this is right or wrong is another matter.

What I do feel, however, is that the government cannot take responsiblity for everything. I am a teenager, but no I don't binge drink every weekend and no, I don't hang around in my hoodie all day and night. But that's not thanks to the government, thats thanks to my parents. They're the ones who are really tough on crime!

You must understand that to ACTUALLY be " Tough On Crime " would be politically incorrect.....plus the police would be sued....and the bleeding heart squad would be out screaming...and the politicians cannot abide that as it might affect their election and profits.

I believe that your use of grammar is a crime in and of itself.
