You know, I never, ever, never, thought that somebody would ask such a question. You should take to the Guiness Records. It would win the first prize for sure.
Well, let's see:
1 - You become a more cultured person.
2 - You learn a language that is becoming more and more common in USA.
3 - You can communicate with other people who don't speak english.
4 - You have access to information, magazines, books, publications, etc, in Spanish. You can read "Don Quijote" in the original language.
5 - You can appreciate masterpieces written in Spanish. They lose perfection when taken to another language.
6 - You may be a translator in case one is needed.
7 - You are a more respected person because you know more than the average.
8 - This knowledge may be very useful when looking for a job. It makes you stand out among other applicants.
9 - You have more chances of being better paid
10 - Now with the globalization, the old idea of the USA as the center of the universe is obsolete. You must communicate with other people in other countries

After Chinese and English, Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world today. It is the official language of 21 countries and the second language in many more, such as the U.S.A. In countries like Japan and Brasil, the study of Spanish as a foreign language has been growing at a very fast pace indeed in recent years. Around 400 million people speak Spanish worldwide and the number continues to grow.
The use of Spanish is also growing in the business world. As the Spanish and South American economies continue to grow and develop, along with the Hispanic market in the United States, interest in Spanish and Hispanic is also increasing.

Spanish is the second most used language in international communication, and it is an official language of the United Nations, the European Union, Mercosur and many other important organizations.

2. There are many jobs that require Spanish on the job. I.E. the border patrol. Further, there are many other jobs where Spanish would be useful, like the medical field.

3. While travelling especially to Mexico, our neighbor to the south, it will be extremely useful.

Depending on where you live, I would say Spanish, Japanese, Chinese. If you wish to make a career using a foreign language than American Sign Language is your best bet, as there is a horrible shortage (which is only going to get worse) of ASL translators. These people are needed by the deaf community for everything from school to court to government dealings, to vacations, theatre, etc. If I had the time, I would learn ASL and Spainish. I wish I spoke both of those now. ASL because my daughter is learning it and I could help her, I could also get a very good, high-paying job as a translator anywhere and any time I wanted. Spanish because I live in Utah where there are alot of Spanish speakers and we are thinking of possibly migrating to Mexico to retire.
