been destroyed in 70 c.e. when the prophecies foretold the Messiah would come in the line of David. Or does it say otherwise in the Talmud?

Jews are still waiting for the Messiah, they do not believe it to be Jesus.

to ted: The genealogical records were destroyed, the Gospel accounts speak only until Jesuls' birth so from that and onwards there would be no more records.

The temple was destroyed in 70 AD, I prefer the proper designation. Jesus was born actually around 6 BC, and all the Gospels were written at least 7-8 years before the temple was destroyed. Hence, all the records were still there.

If they were looking for lineage or knowledge of God, they would have received Jesus, but they were looking for a conquering king that would destroy their enemies. Jesus did not come to do that at this time. He will later.
