For small dogs, I like Pugs and Boston terriers, as they are so easy to get along with, and cute all of their lives. However, my little mutt is absolutely wonderful!

there are so many different breeds, because each of us has different needs and preferences for a dog.

Go to YAHOO! and type in "dog breed selector" Several questionnaires will come up. They will ask you about your lifestyle and preferences. This should give you a good idea about the breed good for you. Once you get it narrowed down, go to akc.com and look at the breed standard. then you may want to volunteer at a shelter or rescue so you can meet the dogs in person and see if you connect. Another resource might be to go to a dog show. Whatever you do, don't go to a pet shop or a backyard breeder.

Personally, the Doberman is my favorite. Contrary to popular belief, if well socialized, Dobermans are WONDERFUL!!!! They are good with kids, and fine with strangers if shown they are okay. However, if needed, will protect your family with their life. However, they do need to know that YOU are in charge. Once you have that covered, they are extremely affectionate, loyal, and obedient. They are also not overly active like a lab, although they are up for a good exercise session at any time.

Happy Hunting!!!!

I have owned tons of different breeds and although I loved the dog I never fell in love with a breed until I met and then got my first Labrador Retriever. And now I would never be without one ever. I absolutley adore my Labs. There are extremely INTELLIGENT, LOYAL, LOVING, DEDICATED, AFFECTIONATE, FRIENDLY and VERSATILE. They get along with everyone and everything. You can take them any where and not have to worry. I have the most fun with my Lab there are so happy just to be with you it does not matter what you are doing. I take mine swimming in the summer, hiking camping to tons of events and functions. He goes sledding and snowmobiling in the winter. They are just the greatest companion. No wonder why they are the number dog homes but service work as well. My Lab knew over 75 commands by a year old and it is so easy to work with them.

American Straffordshire. They are great family dogs and protect very well.Yeah, they're in the pitbull family, but like all dogs, cats, people, we all will snap ifprovoked to. Its how you raise them.If you're the type of person that works alot and spends very little time at home, thena dog isn't what you need. They need lots of love and attention. Especially puppies. But, if you do have to have one and you have to leave them alone, don't leave them inside or outside whit things of value because you will come home to a very big messy surprise! good luck

I like schnoodles. part schnauzer and part poodle. They are low shed, though some consider them no shed. small and all around great. we have a little boy who just turned 3 months. bull dogs are good with people. the american or white english. i prefer white english. the are not the short ones with the under bite. they are wonderful family dogs. bull dogs have gotten a bad rap in the past few years, but are great family dogs. good luck

i'm very anti AKC they have noticeably lots destroyed any breed they have touched and reason a great distinction in working and affirmation. specifically interior the border collie and australian shepherd breeds. What they have carried out to the GSD is against the regulation. supply me a working bred dogs over a affirmation dogs any day of the week. it incredibly is for temperment, and ability to accomplish the job they have been initially created to do.

You will have to do a lot of research before you can be sure. Decide how much exercises you are able to provide your dog, how large of a dog you want, how much grooming you want to do. You can go to dogbreedinfo.com and AKC.org to see ALL the different breeds there are, and what they look like, their temperament... And also research how to care for dogs in general so there are not suprises. But, in my opinion, just for a companion mixed breed dogs are GREAT! You can go to your local shelter to see what dogs they have. They have a lot of mixed breed dogs and puppies, and a lot of pure bred ones too. You can also visit petfinder.com to find shelters in your area, and see their dogs online. Good Luck in finding your new dog.

the best type of dog is a loving one, all dogs can be great companion's but my favorites are golden retrievers, german shepherd, american eskimos alaskan malamutes. Don't base your choice on what I like though pick the dog that is best for you, go to the website at the bottom to take the quiz to find the perfect dog for you=) (some info on the dogs i like^_^)
Golden Retriever
Everybody's friend, the golden retriever is known for its devoted and obedient nature as a family companion. It is an apt sporting retriever as well and yearns for a day in the field. Ignoring its active nature and powerful physique can lead to behavior problems, and it needs daily physical and mental exercise. It tends to be overly exuberant and boisterous, and its enthusiasm for everything often distracts it during training; however, it is eager to please and enjoys learning. The golden's achievements in competitive obedience are remarkable. It especially enjoys games that involve retrieving and loves to carry items in its mouth.
German Shepherd Dog
Among the most intelligent of breeds, the German shepherd dog is so intent on its mission — whatever that may be — that it is virtually unsurpassed in working versatility. It is utterly devoted and faithful. Aloof and suspicious toward strangers, it is protective of its home and family. It can be domineering. It can be aggressive toward other dogs, but it is usually good with other pets
American Eskimo Dog
The American Eskimo is bright, eager to please, lively and fun-loving — in short, an enjoyable and generally obedient companion. True to its spitz heritage, it is independent and tenacious and loves to run, especially in cold weather. But it is among the most biddable of spitz breeds, and it is calm and well-mannered inside. It is good with children, other dogs, and pets and is generally outgoing to everyone.
Alaskan Malamutes
The Alaskan malamute is powerful, independent, strong-willed and fun-loving. Its idea of great fun is to pull a sled or cart, but it also loves to run and roam. It is family-oriented, and as long as it is given daily exercise, it is well-mannered in the home. Without proper exercise, it can become frustrated and destructive. It is friendly and sociable toward people, but it may be aggressive toward strange dogs, pets or livestock. Some can be domineering. It tends to dig and howl.

Although they are really big, Great Danes are very friendly. Hence their nicknames, "gentle giants." If you want a smaller dog, I would recommend a daquesand(I know this is splet wrong), they are very cute, and also nice.
