Toys r US were supposed to give 25,000$ to the first new year baby, but because her mom was illegal, she was disqualified.

I think this is wrong because the contest is not about the mother, it's about the baby. It's not the baby's fault if her/his mom is illegal or not.

What do you think?

"She won a random drawing held to break a tie with two other babies entered in the contest, Toys "R" Us spokeswoman Kathleen Waugh said"

They should have checked the famillies background first before picking which one should win. Toy's R Us made a mistake by even including the Chinese American baby if they knew it violated their so called rules.

I think toys r us was wrong .The baby is American ( born in America) though the parents are not , and your right its about the baby . I also disagree that the other baby that they instead awarded the prize to acted in lack of taste making a statment that the baby was disqulaified and they can not go back and take her grandchilds award away . She was best to remain quiet and stay out of the matter as the debate is not with her
THE BABY IS A LEGAL CITIZEN !

I had not heard about this until now. I wouldn't think that legality was part of the equation. The only thing that Toys R Us has said, from your comment above, that the first child born in the USA would be entitled to $25K.

Having said this, I would check the contest regulations to make sure that it doesn't have some reference to being a US resident...check the small print too. If there is no such regulation on the official rules, then an actionable suit in court would be appropriate. You need to be certain of the facts before proceeding.

The contest rules said the mother MUST be a legal citizen. She was NOT..Toy R Us did the right thing to not give the prize to that baby. The rules didn't say anything about the baby only that the MOTHER MUST BE A LEGAL.I applaud the company they did the right thing. If you read most prize rules you will find that in the rules.....And really ,who really cares?

I wish our government could take a lesson from the management of Toys R Us and use the same reasoning and deny benefits to babies born in the USA of illegal parents.

Kudos for Toys R Us!

Too bad for the child, but the rules stated the mother had to be an American citizen. If you don't meet the eligibility requirements for a contest, whether you agree with them or not, you don't get to win the prize, regardless of whether or not you, or anyone else, feel it's fair.

specific, it became suited. Like we on the main suitable area say every time, its not what coloration you're in the journey that your unlawful your unlawful. Get out and go domicile. Dont take our prize money ment for a us citizen. provide me a harm, we cant also have a toy keep contest with out some unlawful sucking up the money.....specific illegals are 2d classification.

I agree entirely with you, and I'm glad I'm not alone on this... =)

The contest was about the first baby of the new year, not about her mother or her legal status in the country. The baby was born an American citizen, and she deserved the college money from the prize. Just because there are rules does not mean they are fair.

Besides, most chinese people are actually running away from a totalitarian dictatorship... doesn't that qualify for an assylum request?

As much as I love the Chinese(I think Asain women are very hot), I must agree with the decision of Toys r US. If they do not go this route they might get in trouble with the immigration service, or even be liable for suit by others. This is a very sensitive issue in the USA nowadays.

If the baby is bitter, what a baby.
If the rules were printed and you did not read them, then how do you know for sure?
Did you read the rules all the way through?
