If your not sure if you cat trusts you try petting him/her you can tell if he/she growls because the ears and whiskers will pull back and the cat will pull his/her head away, if he/sher is purring the the cats ears will be upright and whiskers away frolm face, the opening and closing of the eyes could just mean your cats tired.to gain confidence if you cat sit with it but don't pet him or her till it seems relaxed, if she growls you or hisses at you stop petting her and walk away, never yell or shout at your cat, your kitty will; learn to trust you don't worry

It could just be sleepy, my kitten does this when she is a bit dopey. Your kitten will sense that you are not confident around her. Wait till she is tired then try gently stroking her talking quietly and calmly to her. My kitten is very loving and loves her cuddles this is because she was shown love and handled a lot when she was still with the mother and the previous owner. If your cat did not have this she may need a little more time to be confident with you. You will know if your kitten growled at you, it's like any other growl where as purring goes on and on. Please do not give up with her as she WILL NOT become more confident with you if you leave her and wait for it to happen. Get to know her slowly and show her Lot's of love .... and remember she's just a baby.
Good luck!

When a cat or kitten opens and closes it's eyes its their way of kissing you. Do it back and you'll see the kitten warm up and start to rub against you. NEVER shy away from that rub as it's the kittens way of showing love and affection. If you shy away, the kitten will be distrustful and even resentful of you.
Unlike dogs or puppies, cats not only have a wider vocal range, but body language as well. For instance, a short, staccato but loud rolling purr followed immediately by a meow that rises and falls off with the aforementioned rub means "Hello / Good Morning / Great to see you", etc... While a hiss could mean "leave me alone right now - I'm busy" or "I'm mad at you" depending if the cat also swats at you with it's paw.
Cats were once worshiped as gods and they have never forgotten it. They own you, you don't own them. Your kitten will train you soon enough, so don't worry.

you'r kitten is opening and closing it's eye's showing you it's affection do it back i do it to my 7 week old kitten and it lets them know you are not there to harm them but to be there friends well so this is what i read on the net lol and it works for my little ball of fluff oh and just keep an eye on the watering if it get's worse seek advice from your vet dont pull away from her as this let's them know you are affraid and this will make them have dominance over you and you don't wanna let that happen im 100% sure it would have been a purr

Cat psychology, Gd I love this stuff!
When cats stare directly at each other, you can be sure that they are trying to intimidate each other. It's kind of like a game of chicken; which ever one blinks first looses and the other is dominant, at least for the time being. When cats close their eyes every so often, they're indicating more friendly attitude. So your cat is being friendly when she closes her eyes at you, or else letting you know you're the dominant cat.
Oh, and some cats have really strange sounding purrs. Sounds like you got friendship and a purr out of your kitten. :-)

Cats are very independent creatures. You cannot own a cat, the cat owns you. If the cat wants to be stroked she will be stroked and when she has had enough, you had better just stop.
I hope your kitten will be happy with her new pet.

It depends where you got the cat from, if she came from a pet shop she could be scared from people touching her, and hessitant..if so try handle her as gently and as often as possible, if she likes her back scratched, then scratch it. If she likes her paws massaged, massage them..my kitten likes to be stroked semi-roughly it reminds her or how her mum handled her. Just find what yours likes and do it to gain her trust

Take it easy, maybe she/he is a little fritened. Keep up with the effection so that they get use to it. Closing and opening your eyes shows them that your not a threat.

its purring, they are very independant kittens/cats unlike dogs they want you for one minute then dissapear somewhere quiet, i have a cat aged 18 months, he,s a bit loving at times then he gets irritable easy if you just go near him, he,s a abit grumpy but love him loads, i,d keep stroking your kitten, when they are tiny they are more affectionate,
