Medications address symptoms; Therapists address the underlying issues which caused the panic attacks to start in the first place

Both are important

I think both is the best solution. Popping pills alone will only deal with the chemical reaction your body is experiencing. Alot of time a panic/anxiety attack is a mental issue not a health issue and there are unresolved issues in your life that may need to be worked out thru therapy. Talk to your doctor and explain how and when you get these attacks and they will point you in the right direction!

Medicine helps! Ativan is one that works best. My boyfriend is now trying a non narcotic one (Buspar) but it takes a while to work into your system so we don't know yet if it will work for him. I've tried it with no help. Talking to a counselor may help some, but in my experience it never really stops you from having the attacks. They suggest a lot of things that may help, but medicine seems to be the quickest acting. Good luck!

Meds work. But both together work best. You dont even have to see a psychiatrist, unless for meds. A social worker or counsellor is just as good for talking.

Have you ever considered you might have adrenal fatigue? It's very common, and can accompany hypothyroid. Go here: www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and click on the Adrenal Info page, and do those self-tests...especially the pupil test. Sluggish adrenals can result in panic attacks.

Anti-anxiety meds work very well for lots of people with panic attacks. They do not have to see a psych doctor as their normal doc can diagnose these and prescribe meds for this.

YES - MEDS REALLY WORK - BUT IT IS TRUE - YOU MUST BE FOLLOWED BY A DOCTOR THAT KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH (PSYCHIATRIST BEING A GOOD CHOICE)...IF YOU TRUELY HAVE AN ANXIETY DISORDER YOUR DOCTOR WILL ALSO RECOMMENT TREATMENT ON NON-DRUG WAYS TO COPE TOO...

medication helps greatly but talk therapy will give you tools to cope. most importantly, it will help you understand why you have these attacks and in understanding them, you may be able to stop them from happening all together.
