I'm not complaining or anything... But, my cat (Meeko, male, Age 4) is so affectionate with me.
Example: If I'm walking around he'll jump off of a counter or a table and jump right on to my back and won't let go. He wraps his arms around my neck, purs and licks me all over my face, and plays around in my hair.
Also, he follows me everywhere!! He won't leave me alone! I even try to run away from him and hide, but he follows and finds me!
He also sleeps with me every night... And, even wakes me up in the morning (he brings his toys to my bed, so I can play with him)
I'm just wondering, are most cats like this? I really love my cat, he's like my best friend - but sometimes I don't feel like playing with him all the time... IF I DONT play with him, or if I ignore him, then he'll just come up to me and bite me...
PLUS, I am the only person in my family that he is affectionate with. He never plays or licks, or purs when he's near other family members - and he also attacks everyone but me!

What a wonderful personality! I love affectionate cats-I have one purring next to the computer right now.
All cats, like people, have different personalities. They are intelligent and independent animals, and will only accept things like petting and playtime, on their terms. I have owned many cats and I have never seen them have the same personality, or the exact traits. Some cats get along with all members of the family, and will greet just about anyone at the door. Others are shy and timid, and will only bond with one member of the family. Others love to get petted 4/7, but are shy and hide when strangers arrive at the door.
My cat loves the little girl next door. When he hears a child outside, he must get to the window as soon as possible to "chat" and he meows through the window in an attempt to get the child's attention. That puzzles me, however, because he was never raised around children.
Factors that can affect a cat's personality include handling and talking to them frequently as a kitten, the presence of people during those first months.
You have a wonderful cat that adores you and looks up to you, and probally thinks you are "momma cat", and for that, you recieve the highest honors a cat can give.

that's actually a really funny question. My boyfriend has 2 main cats and loads of kittens, the two cats are male and female. The male called miffy is so friendly and affectionate to him and when i started coming round regularly miffy became affectionate to me too. The female doesn't come as much, if at all, and the stories i have heard about how she gets her males are just plain vicious. She lures them then bites them in the neck and drag them to the place where they mate. But that might just be the cats that we know. so from what i know i presume males are more affectionate.

the reason your cat is so affectionate is they can sense when you love them you are the only one there he has no one else to turn to. Some cats are like that if he isn't around alot a people he could get scared and think he is in dangerment. He loves you because you feed him and take care of him. Believe me I know My kitten is affectionate to me but he not affectionate toward anyone else he is scared of them. Continue to love him and he will be your best friend 4ever. If he follows you everywhere you go he might think you are leaving him. So he wants your attention to let him know everything will be ok.

Some cats are more affectionate than others. Some are one person cats, others treat all humans the same. You just happen to have a one person cat that is affectionate only with you.
We have two Siamese with big personalities. They are not real social when other people come to our house--they often hide. But they are very affectionate with us. They usually sleep with my husband and I because my daughter shuts her doors. It stems from Lilong chewing her beanie babies years ago. But when she is watching television, Lilong cuddles with her first. She usually feeds him Pringles.
Lillith doesn't like to be picked up but she tolerates me holding her the longest. She will cuddle with me under the blankets at night.
You are lucky that you are your cat's favorite person! Enjoy.

my cat skittles (age 9) is the same way except he tolerates other poeple, he puts his paws around my neck and sleeps with me, if you don't want to play with you cat every time he comes up to you try spraying him with water or even hissing back at him, I hate using water on my cats so when skittles wants to sit with me but I'm busy with homework I'll make a hissing sound and glare at him and he leaves, he's still just as affectionate, the hissing has in no way made him fear me. as far as attacking other ppl, try putting Meeko in a room and have other members of the family stay in the room with him, have them offer treats to him and sit in the room with him till he gets used to them.

Cats are not all like this. He is at a stage where he will become a lap cat if it's his personality though. He plays with you when you don't want to play with him because he feels yuor negative energy towards him. Often cats prefere one person to others as well. Our nine year old male is like that with me and our kitten adores my mom.

Lucky you! He sounds like your biggest fan! Love and attention are a blessing but sometimes can be irritating. Appreciate his kind gestures and when you need time alone, close a bedroom door with him outside of it or go outside to read or do something while he stays inside. Be kind. You wouldn't want to break his spirit and you wouldn't want to lose a devoted friend!

My cat is almost the same now but one year before he was totaly different. What can explain that is that he feel well (for mine, it's since I have moved in a new apartment with more windows and space).
Some cats are more sensible ! like humans.

Your cat loves you, that's all. Neutered male cats are notably more affectionate that females also. You just have a great cat, he knows you're his best friend and he just wants to hang out with you. I envy you!
