I am asking this question because I read that you should breathe through your nose and exhale through your mouth, but I also read that you should breathe through your mouth and exhale through your mouth.

Thanks for all the responses.

I am not 100% what you mean since breathing is an involuntary action.

However, it is beneficial to breathe deeply and using the diaphragm for max inflation. It is also better to have good posture as this lets the lungs inflate properly. When working on breathing with my patients esp. those after surgery, I encourage pursed lip breathing ( in through the nose , out through the mouth) with a focus on deep breathing and control as a measure to prevent atelectasis and decrease the chances of pneumonia. I have encouraged patients to exhale while exerting themselves ...Eg. Exhale as you come up in a sit up, inhale as you go back down) as a way to discourage holding their breath and again, to increase oxygenation.

I hope this helps you with your question.

The correct way to breathe? I highly doubt anything you're told will change the way you breathe.
