I wouldn't attempt this. Rifles are precision instruments. The barrels are bored from high quality tensile steels. The old aluminium tubular chair leg and bed springs approach is not very clever. You are likely to get to get a breech and a nice shower of shrapnel in your face.

We have seen it in movies of course but this is usually when some guy is captured by the enemy and going to die anyway etc.

A crossbow is more achieveable and a very accurate and powerful one can be made from basic plans and materials. I think the SAS survival guide has some good stuff on fashioning weapons such as these oh and some cool traps too.

I can't tell you how to make a rifle but if you want to make a shotgun here is a material list. (INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY) Length of 3/4" steel pipe seamless preferred. Mouse trap, wood, wire.
Connect the pipe to the wood using the wire connect the mouse trap to the wood with nails or screws as close to the pipe as possible. File a notch so the shell can be removed. Connect a small pin or nail to the mouse trap so when the trap snaps the shell will go off. Connect a small thread to the mouse trap to fire from a remote distance in case the gun explodes. This might work for any rim fire if the tubing is the right size. After a few shots the pipe WILL FAIL. If using this information. This is illegal in the United States the use of is a felony.

Well, out of household materials - forget it - it will explode in your face and blow off your hand or eye - or both - forget it.

The other alternative - first take some courses on being a gunsmith, Then buy the $thousands of dollars and equipment and raw materials it would take to make one. Of course, you'll need room for a forge/furnace too.

Buy the plan for a gun and cast the piece you need - buy the rest - using you gunsmith skills assemble the gun. Test it. If you're good it won't blow up - congratulations - you made a gun.

Of course, it's a lot cheaper (and faster) to buy one - and I'd rather go that way if I were you.

Unless you're talking about a potato gun!

It is not illegal nor is it hard to make a firearm. But if you intend to sell them the issues of safety testing and serializing them with numbers, magazine capacitys, caliber restrictions by state law, etc. begins to be a hassle.

Actually "rifling" the firearm is the expensive part. The tooling for this is expensive. Good billet metal stock to machine them from is not cheap but it won't break the bank either.

For many of the above listed reasons black powder firearms are the best and most availible type to build. Most kits have smooth bore barrels in them. For a first time project you can order a black powder single shot rifle or pistol kit and build it yourself. It will come with all the metal hardware and basic wood trim components. You can finish it however you want.

Good luck to ya. The neo nazi gun grabbers like to blow smoke. The truth and facts aren't the realm they like to deal in. If you have any questions on firearms issues you should contact the representative for the NRA in your state or area. They will gladly give you positive advice and guidance. Here are a couple of links to black powder kits.

You're the type of guy who hits bullets with a nail and a hammer, aren't you? If you can't get a gun the usual way, you shouldn't have one either. Go to wal-mart, they're cheap there. If they won't sell you one and this is still not reason enough to deter you, look downtown in some alley, they're always selling guns there.

thats to dangerous you need special steel for the barrel(any steel pipe is to thin) and could end up blowing your face off if it is home made ,this has happened to many people who tried this
better make a catapult that is easier and safer

,but why the need for weapons to kill.is it for protection or are you hungry and want to go hunting???

if its for protection get a baseball bat
.if your hungry go to the store.

It's really difficult. The odds of it blowing up on you are extremely high. I wouldn't advise attempting it. Either go out and get a gun legit, or use a knife.
