Colossians 2:13-17 Furthermore, though YOU were dead in YOUR trespasses and in the uncircumcised state of YOUR flesh, [God] made YOU alive together with him. He kindly forgave us all our trespasses and blotted out the handwritten document against us, which consisted of decrees and which was in opposition to us; and He has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the torture stake. Therefore let no man judge YOU in eating and drinking or in respect of a festival or of an observance of the new moon or of a sabbath; for those things are a shadow of the things to come, but the reality belongs to the Christ.
The inhabitants of Judah who seek salvation from God must obey the Mosaic Law, observing justice and leading righteous lives. Why? Because Jehovah himself is righteous. Those who pursue righteousness enjoy the happiness that comes from having Jehovah’s favor.—Psalm 144:15b.
ISAIAH Chapter 56.The prophecy highlights Sabbath observance because the Sabbath is an important feature of the Mosaic Law. Indeed, one of the reasons why the inhabitants of Judah eventually go into exile is their neglect of the Sabbath. (Leviticus 26:34, 35; 2 Chronicles 36:20, 21) The Sabbath is a sign of the special relationship Jehovah has with the Jews, and those who observe the Sabbath show that they value that relationship. (Exodus 31:13) Further, observing the Sabbath would remind Isaiah’s contemporaries that Jehovah is the Creator. Such observance would also bring to mind his mercies toward them. (Exodus 20:8-11; Deuteronomy 5:12-15) Finally, keeping the Sabbath would provide a regular, structured arrangement for worshiping Jehovah. Resting once a week from their regular work would give the inhabitants of Judah opportunity for prayer, study, and meditation.
What, though, of today's Christians? Does the encouragement to observe the Sabbath apply to them? Not directly, since Christians are not under the Law and are therefore not required to observe the Sabbath. (Colossians 2:16, 17) Still, the apostle Paul explained that there is “a sabbath resting” for faithful Christians. This “sabbath resting” involves having faith in Jesus’ ransom sacrifice for salvation and ceasing to rely on works alone. (Hebrews 4:6-10) Hence, the words of Isaiah’s prophecy regarding the Sabbath remind Jehovah’s servants today of the vital need to have faith in God’s arrangement for salvation. It is also a fine reminder of the need to cultivate a close relationship with Jehovah and to pursue a course of regular, consistent worship.

Excellent question.
It is true, no one wants to get rid of the 10 commandments... until they are faced with the 4th commandment. The 10 commandments are a solid, until someone mentions the Sabbath then everything becomes fluid and a matter of opinion.
As you can see many people have differents reasons why they do not obey God.
I must respectfully disagree with some of the above comments.
"Today’s world does not give us the opportunity to serve Jehovah the way He wants."
The world never gave anyone the opportunity to worship the way God wants, but God still expects His people to obey Him
Daniel had to decide if he was going to break the first commandment or go to the lion's den
Shadrach Meshach and Abednigo had to decide if they were going to keep the 2nd commandment or go into the fiery furnace.
We have to decide if we are going to keep the 4th or be popular.
It is never easy to follow God. If you are waiting for it to be easy it will NEVER happen. God still wants people to obey Him even if it is not popular or has consequences.
"The fourth one was never repeated to the church, only the other nine were."
Actually the Sabbath is mentioned several times in the New Testament.
A Christian is a follower of Christ and Jesus kept the Sabbath
Matthew 12:9,10
Mark 1:21
Mark 6:2
Luke 4:16
Luke 4:31
Luke 13:10
In addition Jesus expected His followers to be keeping the Sabbath long after He went to Heaven
Jesus speaking of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A.D.
Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. Matthew 24:20
Did the apostles keep the Sabbath?
Acts 13:14
Acts 13:42
Acts 13:44
Acts 16:13
Acts 17:2
Acts 18:4
And yes there is a command to Keep the Sabbath in the New Testament.
Hebrews 4:9
There remains a rest to the people of God.
The word used for "rest" is the Greek word Sabatismos which means "the keeping of Sabbath"
"God did allow the original commandments to expire, and at the very moment Jesus did."
This statement violates
Malachi. 3:6
"I am the Lord I change NOT."
and Matthew 5
"I have not come to abolish the law or the prophets."
The Sabbath was not given to the Jews it was given to Adam and Eve in the garden of Ededn Genesis 2:1-3 more than 1000 yrs before the first jew existed. If Adam and Eve were Jews we all are Jews.
"Colossians 2:13-17 "
This is talking about ceremonial laws which is different from the 10 commandments
These verses are talking about ceremonial Sabbaths like passover which points to the crucifiction, the feast of first fruits which points to the resurrection etc but the 7th day points to creation. It does NOT point FORWARD it points BACK to creation. "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy" Why? "Because in 6 days the Lord created the Heavens and the earth."
If the Sabbath command was nailed to the cross so was the command about worshiping other gods and the command about murder.
Revelation 14 says that 3 messages go out to the world right before the end comes. The first message says worship the creator and then it quotes the 4th commandment.
God is calling his people to return to the commandments and worship Him as He has described. He wants His people to leave man made traditions and come back to His word.

Because Chrstians like to ignore things they don't want to do.
Some (Seventh Day Adventists) do "keep" the Sabbath day, but not in the way prescribed in the Old Testament. There are 39 categories of work we are not to do on Shabbat (they are the ones that were used during the building of the Ark of the Covenant)
But not everyone worships this way, some believe that the OT laws are not in place anymore. So it can be argued that SDAs DO keep the 4th commandment.

The forth one was never repeated to the church, only the other nine were. When God speaks you have to look and see who He is speaking to, and those are the ones responsible for doing what He says. When God said to Jonah, "Go to Nineveh", and Jonah didn't go, God did not punish Jeremiah, because He never asked Jeremiah to go. When I ask my son to clean the car out I don't discipline my daughter if he doesn't do it. That is the principle that needs to be undestood. God spoke to Israel and gave them the 10 commandments and Israel carries that responsibility, not the church. God gave the "Lord's Day" to the church on the first day of the week.

God did allow the original commandments to expire, and at the very moment Jesus did.
The commandments we are to follow today are the new covenant commandments put into place by the authority he gave only to his church, not the Bible, and certainly to no other Christian group.

Jesus fulfilled the law, making it obsolete. The principles are still in tack and should be followed.
Today’s world does not give us the opportunity to serve Jehovah the way He wants.
So please, when Jehovah’s Witnesses contact you, ask for a free home bible study.
You will be amazed at what you will learn from the bible.

Don't make blanket statements like that. I do keep the Sabbath day. Many people do keep the Sabbath day. I know my church is full on that day. Don't make blanket asumptions when you don;t have that right to do so.

How about the second? That one is ignored all the time.
"TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'
Um, oops.
