can electric linear actuators hold loads (tensile) or do they only provide a force for movement? and does anyone know any good uk shops?

Depends on the flux capacitor.

Yes they can hold loads up to 50% of the max force rating of the actuator itself. Although this is generally not recommended as accurate positioning is out of the question. There are other more efficient ways of sustaining a load. Worm gear with a step motor, hydraulic, etc.

They can but i wudn't recommend it. There wud be no point in using one to hold a load.
