This is halarious. Mydaughter called today and told me that her 3 young kittens got locked out of where their litter box is last night, by accident. She woke this morning and noticed that it smelled in the bedroom, looked around the floor, didn't see anything. Slept out on the couch till morning. This whole time her live in boyfriend is asleep in the bed. When she went back in the bedroom, she noticed the smell, and looked around some more, under the bed, etc. Then she looks ON the bed, and her boyfriend is asleep on his side. Up an down the side of his body is 5 different piles of cat poop. All different shapes and color, so she knew it was all three of them. Of course he was covered up with the comforter, so it wasn't on his skin. By this time I was laughing my *** off, and so was she. She could hardly tell the story, she was laughing so hard. I told her to check his shorts for skid marks. I can't understand WHY would these cats choose him to poop on? LOL

Perhaps they are not fond of him? That's a tough one. I've always had very good kids that will actually come and get me or "meow" if there's an issue with the door to their litter box area. Also, they will scratch and bang on the door since they can sometimes open it on their own.

A solution to this - have multiple boxes in different areas. You should typically have one box for every cat, though many vets insist on two boxes for every one cat. Personally I think that's a LOT of litter box cleaning! I have three cats - 2 that are two and one that is a 5-month old and the three boxes work just fine.

Another suggestion - to prevent the door issue - put a towel OVER the door near the hinge. Fold it up in half and place it near the hinges over the door. If the door were to close, it would catch on the towel and act as a doorstop. This is also to prevent your "door stop" from being played with or moved by anyone except an adult that can reach that high.

More than likely it was a sign of them being upset. I have a Maine Coon purebred and I bought one of those fancy litterboxes that scoops for you. He did not like it and I assumed after a few days he would adjust. He did not and he went into my bedroom and peed on my side of the bed where only I slept.
The only other time he's done this was recently when I made him wear a sweater for Christmas. So, it's usually a sign they are upset and they are pretty smart to know how to get you back! They were probably upset and had to go. They probably went in the bed because they knew that was where she slept and wanted to comb her attention.

LOL That is SOOO funny!! cats are wierd..lol Your guess is as good as mine as to why they pooped on him, it must have been the most desirable spot. I doubt it had to do with dominance since cats dont use poop to dominate other cats by going on them. It probably all started with one cat, maybe woke up and had to go to the bathroom since he couldnt get out he probably sniffed around and chose a spot that maybe had a smell of the litterbox (maybe from their feet and that spot was where they lay and spread the scent) then he went there... after that all the others would use the same spot because once it has been used its like a signal to go there again...LOL

Sometimes cats will show their disapproval in this fashion. After all, there's not much they can really do to express themselves to us... perhaps they blamed your daughter's boyfriend for locking them out of their litter box room?

I had a cat who peed on a former boyfriend once. It was more a sign of disrespect than a sign of dominance. Your story is very funny.

Urinating and defecating on owners or others is often a sign of dominence, I would say the dominate kitten went there and so the others followed suit!
