I have really dark brown hair, that is ALMOST black when it is wet. I am a white girl and I want to go a lighter reddish brown. My problem is my hair grows REALLY fast. I got highlights about a month ago and my roots have already grown in and become VERY noticeable. I also don't want to damage my hair more than it already is, because I straighten it about twice a week and my hair has a lot of breakage in it and horrid split ends, you wouldn't BELIEVE how split and dry they are. I want to wait a while, maybe, before I do this, how long will it take before the breakage is gone? I am getting my split ends trimmed at some point this week or I'm doing it myself, because they are horrible. My other question is why do my roots grow so fast, what makes them grow fast, and can I slow them down? Any help you can give or advice in this this situation would be greatly appreciated. God bless you and your family.

No, I didn't get too many highlights, and when I had them done, they were right on my roots, they weren't done already with the roots looking like they were grown out. My hair just grows super fast. And they were done with white not yellow.

I get my hair cut every 5 or 6 wks & my roots are a little over 1/4" long. There is nothing you can do about it & if there was you would be putting too much product on your hair.

When you wash your hair always put a small amt of conditioner on the ends & once a wk put it all over.

Also you would be kinder to your hair if you straightened it only once a wk (it would be better not to straighten it at all).

I wouldn't even consider dyeing it until your hair becomes healthier. You are doing way too much to your hair.

With highlighting your roots shouldn't have been so noticeable. Did you highlight too heavily? Also its much softer looking if its highlighted white than a brassy yellow & growing out isn't as noticeable.

don't straighten your hair, and cut off your dead ends every month. try using conditioner if you don't already. Don't dye your hair.

PS. A great way to hide roots is to parrt your hair zig zag. It looks cute and totally hides roots.
