I have a registry error that needs to be fixed. I have the step by step instructions from Microsoft, to fix a system32 error. Can someone who is not an expert fix a registry? Can I do more damage?

while the other answers here have some points;

the main answer to your question is, "YES" (to both questions)

you should, however, follow a few steps

1.) backup the registry
2.) you could to a set-point for a restore, worst case
3.) read each step in the instructions THREE times
4.) registry entries are very long, be very careful in reading the screen
5.) I find the Ace Utilities from AceLogix Software works very well, plus has a ton of easy to use tools for other tasks

hope this helps too

yes and yes. you can make a copy of your registry (export) then make the change. If you make a mistake, reboot and import the saved registry. For expedience, you can just export the section you are making changes to.

In all honesty if you do not know what you are doing you can do more harm then good. You are dealing with the mainframe of the operating system.

As long as you backup the regristry first it should be ok. Just ask microsoft how to back it up first.
