I think it's because our society values youth so highly. If a woman has to admit that she's not young, then it makes her seem of lower status, socially speaking.

We were at Applebee'sday, and it was mentioned today was my birthday celebration, it is actually tommorrow.. The server asked how old I was, and I did tell the truth.
Ladies like the air of mystery concerning their age, they are vain enough to hope they look younger than their age.The server was wise enough not to comment, just wished me a happy birthday. I look older than the friend I was with, she has a baby face, but she is from January to July younger than me.. And she told me later she was going to tell, if I had not. Traitor. I got a free milkshake, anyway.
The rule is from a time long ago, where it was impolite to ask a lady a personal question.

Because you are seeking to evaluate them against a number.
People don't want to be judged or evaulated. Plus, it's just plain nosey and not relevant most of the time. I have been mistaken for much younger and when I've told my actual age, some people are just not wishing to stop discussing it. Seriously, there are more important things in life.

it is been around for hundreds of years a minimum of, if the fiction I examine is reasonable. Age and weight are 2 issues fairly some ladies are mushy approximately. a guy could be older and nevertheless be respected, it would not look that way for older women folk. Older women folk are looked upon as "much less mandatory" with the aid of some human beings. have you ever heard of a guy having a meltdown on his thirtieth or fortieth birthday? i comprehend fairly some women folk that have taken those milestones complicated. and ladies are valued for his or her seems greater beneficial than adult adult males- women folk do not age as nicely as adult adult males do, in my view. i don't ask anybody, adult adult males or women folk, their age or weight.

I'm not really sure but I never get offended when people ask my my age. Maybe it's because I'm only 21 and I haven't gone over the hill yet, I don't know lol.

Because often women don't want to admit their age, especially if they can pass for younger. Nobody wants to admit that they are getting old, especially women because society worships youth and beauty.

Who knows-some old hag probably made a big deal out of it at one time and it must have caught on. I don't mind telling people my age or weight; 27 110lbs! What does it really matter anyway......

Because they feel "old" when they are asked. After all these years, I still have NO idea how old is my 4th grade teacher. Or my 3rd grade teacher...
