Can someone believe a god exists yet still vigorously deny that anyone has ever delivered a message from that god?

Yes that is a valid belief. The problem is if the god is not communicating then there is no way to get to know the god or God intent or your own purpose. It would be a god who created and them just sat back and watched.

Not a thrilling concept for me.

Interesting question. I do think that there is a God. As far as delivering a message it is tough to answer. If Jesus was a prophet than his massage was sure screwed up after he died. No way the bible is anything about the God that I believe in.

Gandhi and Martin Luther King were better prophets, or maybe just later ones.

A lot depends upon how you define "believing in" and what it means. In my opinion, the two go together -- that is, you cannot believe in God without believing God exists. That would be true of any deity. But to look at it the other way, the way you are apparently looking at it, believing God exists does not necessarily equate in believing in him. And I agree with that view.

The difference is truth. Jesus said you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. (John 8:32) If truth frees us then it is truth that we are seeking for. That is why it is crutial to examine what is taught, and what is its source before you swallow and ingest it. The Bible has stood the test of time and proven itself in the lives of millions. In the first 100 years of Christianity millions of Christians were slaughtered and were faithful to the end. In Islam in the first 100 years they slaughtered millions of people of all races and established what they stand for. I don't know about you but if I am going to trust my eternal life to Someone I want some evidence that it is truth and not lies.

Of course. They are usually called Deists. Read a little bit of the things Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson wrote. You will find they both are exactly that.

Sure they can. They can believe in Brand X. A person who followed Norse gods would be CERTAIN that those guys were lying just as Christians are certain that Muslims are lying about Muhammad.
