A green onion is a very small bulb with long green stems on them and are usually used raw in salads. or cooked in stirfry. They are sold in the produce dept. in bunches of about six or so. The lower bulb part is white which is sliced starting at the root end. Some people also like the green stems as well as the white part that tastes like a mild , regular bulb onion. If you don't have any green onions , you could substitute some chopped regular onion, it would be stronger though.

another name for a green onion is a spring onion or a shallot. It is less intense when cooking with it in flavour as the bulb onion. Generally used in salads or in making stuffed backed potatoes

Green onions are very mild, and have a nice taste, and are not cooked for very long. They are used raw in most recipes, or very lightly sauteed.
A bulb onion can not replace them.

Green onions are most similar to chives. Not like the bulb onion at all.

green onions are bulb onions that are pulled when they are young. they are used in recipes for their flavor and the tops have that nice onion flavor a lot like chives are used. believe it or not the flavor is different from a bulb onion which is a grown onion. the green onion is sweeter and milder in that stage.

none really. Green onions, scallions, they're all the same. If you don't have any use regular onions. I think green onions are used mostly for color and contrast. I don't think it will change the taste of the recipe

Green onions are scallions. They have a very small bulb, but it is the lower stalk that you want to chop up and use.
