I have an older Sharp TV set - like 15 years old. Using it for XBOX in kids room. The tv needs to be on channel 4 in order to show the xbox mode but i can't find the remote and the TV default station settings do not include channel 4. In other words, i cant get the station to the right channel manually. I have tried using remotes for other tv's in house including a universal remote...no luck.

Any thoughts?

If you have a VCR laying around, then you can use the VCR remote to get channel 4 by connecting the Xbox to the VCR and the VCR to the TV.

I seriously do not believe a universal remote will not work with a name-brand like Sharp. When you get a universal remote, you have to program it to be used with the TV. It doesn't work right out of the box. I suggest the Philips remote. It costs about $15.

You can buy original replacement remotes (used) on the internet.
They tend do be very expensive however. You may be getter off getting a new, used, or factory reconditioned TV*.

Try eBay and they internet. For the internet, write down the model of your TV, and search the web (I'd use goggle.com to search it). for that model # and "remote control".
You may also get lucky and find it in a list of supported TV's for a universal remote.

Example:

zenith z-100 remote control

And, you might try one or two more universal remotes. If they don't work - take them back for a refund.

P.S. What channel does it come up on?

*I purchased a 24" Magnavox refurbished at Pamida for $50-$60. It was a good as and looked new. The TV and remote were weird to setup - I'd have probably given up and gotten something else also.
The sole light on the TV came ON when the TV was turned OFF (to indicate it was in standby). Between that and the "blue screen" for non-working channels - which was actually pitch-black - it took me a couple of hours to get it set up.

If you can access menu with front panel buttons on tv, you can turn on the xbox and do a channel search out of memory. It will find and store ch.4 as long as xbox is on. If not I would try some other universals you should get one to work. Actual brand/model replacement remotes tend to cost alot more.

If the TV is 15 year old, I doubt it would last very long being used for video games anyway. You'd be better off just purchasing a new inexpensive TV. Replacement remotes can be hard to find and expensive.

Yes, I have a thought! They practically give away Tube TVs these days. Throw out the old Sharp and get a new TV.
