I really like those fancy liners, but they're expensive! Couldn't I just use foil or something else to achieve the same results? Any suggestions?

Probably can, but NOT if you are making anything acidic, like tomato products or sauerkraut. Those foods react with the metal, and will "eat" through it and acquire a nasty metallic flavor.

When I use my crockpot, I just empty it as soon as possible, and start it soaking full of hot soapy water. Clean-up is a breeze!

Not sure what "results" you're trying to achieve and never heard of a crock pot liner. We just throw the food in the crock pot and cook it! Been doing it that way for 33 years and it works fine. (OK, you're gonna say I'm a guy . . .but my wife isn't!) MEANWHILE, if you WANT to line your crockpot with foil, sure, why not?!

You can use a baking bag in your crock pot. But it is messy with soup..
