Both me and my bf talk to our cat in a silly voice, we call him strange names aswel, like 'booies and boo boos!' WHY do we do this?

Humans have some sort of instinctual response to babies (and small animals/pets) that cause them to speak in "baby talk" to them. It has something to do with the development of language skills in infants, but it's been a while since my Child Psych class, so I don't remember the exact details.

I confer with our cats in a classic voice, someplace between the way I confer with my teenage daughter and my grown son. My daughter makes use of the infant-communicate, which seems to get her some ordinary seems from the cats, yet which they in general tolerate.

Becuase maybe your mom talked to you like that when you were a baby. that is how i talk to my dog and my mom told me we got that voice from the moms so that is what i lupita palomo say.

its like why do we talk 'baby' talk to babies there are smaller and unable to actually contribute to our converstations so we feel we need to dumb down our 'talk' to them.
btw I still do it to my 12yr old cat, casper too

bcoz they are very cute! <333. especially when they get older and fat! i just love there faces, its so puffed up, and i juz wanna cuddle it to death ,lol.

people talk to cats like babies because they cant have sex with them. i treat everything that i cant have sex with like a baby
