It's really important that you talk to your doctor about ways that you can stop purging. As someone who has both worked as a therapist for people with eating disorders and who has also overcome an eating disorder, I can tell you that it's very hard to get better on your own. When I was your age I was throwing up 15-20 times a day and I did eventually get very, very sick. I had a heart attack and am fortunate to be around. Because of my experience, I decided that I needed to do something to help others - I completely recovered and now try to help people. It is absolutely 100% possible to recover completely, so please don't give up hope!!

God isn't going to punish you by taking away your life. He knows that you're suffering and wants you to be well with yourself. However, it is important that you know that there are a number of health complications that can result from your eating disorder. Some people who have a LONG history (10-15 years, usually) of purging very frequently have devloped esophogeal cancer because of the stomach acid which constantly travels through the esophagus during purging. This, however, is relatively rare. Other people develop serious dental problems. Still others, like myself, have developed heart conditions largely as a result of malnutrition and electorlyte imbalances. I'm not telling you this to scare you, but to tell you that there are health consequences. But remember, it is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE to get better. You just have to want it more than anything else and you have to be willing to do the work - which often involves working with professionals - to get better.

A website which you may find helpful is www.sfwed.com. There is a very supportive bulletine board there where you will find so much support. They also have a list of treatment providers who deal with eating disorders, if you do eventually decide that this is something you would like to pursue.

Good luck, and please don't give up

Hi,
Whatever the cause of an eating disorder, the effects can be damaging — if not downright devastating and life threatening.
People with bulimia often have constant stomach pain. In fact, bulimia can actually damage a person's stomach and kidneys as a result of constant vomiting. Bulimia can also cause a person's teeth to decay because of the acids that come up into the mouth while vomiting.
Fortunately, people with eating disorders can get well and gradually learn to eat normally again. Because bulimia involve both the mind and body, medical doctors, mental health professionals, and dietitians will often be involved in a person's treatment and recovery. The most critical thing about treating eating disorders is to recognize and address the problem as soon as possible — like all bad habits, unhealthy eating patterns become harder to break the longer a person takes part in them
Thank you.

Being bulimic doesn't cause cancer but it may cause death or lead to heart problems and many other problems listed at the site below.
I recommend talking to a doctor. A doctor would know a lot more about this.

speak to your doctor, get help to stop the bulimia before it does any real damage. you have no doubt damaged your body after 6 years, but only a doctor can tell you what damage has been done and if it can be fixed.Have you tried talking to a councillor about why you binge and are sick? Either way please get help before you really damage yourself.

I dont think you will die because you are right now concerned about it . but you need help NOW. you cant sleep because you are eating wrong. Good nutrition gives you good sleep. binging and purginh can weaken your heart and you can die from that . seek help and find why you do this. do you have family problembs. controll or abuse problembs from them ? . abusive families breed anorexics and binge and purgers Often not always but often. Act NOW ... Jennie.. you are throwing up what you need to think right.

As hard as this has been for you, I think you have just taken your first step in trying to get help. You should feel proud of yourself.

Please please please go and see your doctor, or confide in a close friend or maybe a tutor. You need to get professional help. A doctor will not judge you, they are there to help you and that is what they will do.

I am not a doctor so I don't know the effects of making yourself sick. I do not think it can cause cancer.

You need to go to a doctor. Tell them what you do. You need to stop making yourself sick. A doctor will talk to you and help you.

If you really wish to get better you must take control of your life, it's easier than you think.
Stop believing that life is impossible and prove it to yourself to start with by telling your doctor everything!
Good luck to you.
