You mentioned that you have really thick hair so you have to keep in mind that you may have a different hair type than the look you're going after requires. However it is always important for anyone growing their hair out to maintain healthy hair when growing it. Make sure that you keep the ends trimmed as needed and that you condition your hair regularly. It may also be helpful to get your hair texturized ( with thinning shears), this will help prevent that "poofy" look. You are also going to want to invest in some hair products that will help you control your hair, pomades work nicely. The best advice I can give you is to be patient. Hair only grows, on average, one half inch per month so it does take time. You are going to go through an ugly stage where you absolutely cant stand how your hair looks but hold on because you will eventually get your hair to where you want it. Good Luck!!

Believe it or not, one of the best things you can do is make sure you get regular trims. Trimming your hair encourages it to grow. So, go in every 4 weeks or so and get the ends trimmed. If your hair tends to grow "up" as it were, there will be a time where you might not be able to manage your hair in any way that will look good. I would suggest for a period of time you wear a hat or get lots of hair gel. (Ha ha).

Growing hair takes time, you can speed up the process by taking vitamins. also to train your hair not to stick up, keep a hat on, until it get to the point where it will not stand up.
Good Luck.

My hairdresser interior the 80's had eye-catching lengthy hair. more desirable than FABIO.
