yes.....you can backslide
the map to becoming a Christian is
Hear God's Word
Believe the Word
Admit you are a sinner
Repent of your sins
BE BAPTISED - 9 yes is IT important even thought the first poster says not) He that believed AND is baptised shall be saved.........God's Words to us thru the Bible......He said it, not me.................It does NOT say " he that believeth and is saved shall be baptised"
and LIVE A FAITHFUL life....... this is important, if you choose not to remain faithful , you can backslide and be out of Christ.

Dear Bethy,
Many people have mistakenly believed that water baptism has something to do with salvation. Water baptism is simply a sign that teaches a spiritual fact. Just as water washes away the filth of the flesh, so the Gospel of Jesus Christ washes His people. We read in Ephesians 5:26, "That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word." Jesus says many times in the Bible, "If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear." Now we know that most people have ears, right? Was the Lord just trying to fill up space in the Bible? No! Everyone is a sinner and is spiritually DEAD in sins and trespasses (Ephesians 2:1-3). Well then, how does a DEAD person hear and obey God? The Lord has to give them spiritual life (ears to hear). It is something that only God can do. When you were born, did you tell your mom when you wanted to be born? did you tell her what eye color you wanted? No way! God makes ALL those decisions. So it is when a person is born again (saved). The Lord is the One who gives eternal life. If you are not saved or not sure, keep reading the Bible and praying that the Lord will have mercy on you. The Bible says, "So then, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." FAITH is a synonym for the Lord Jesus (Revelation 19:11). So then, Christ cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. That is why the Bible is so important.
Do you recall the two thieves that were crucified with Jesus? One of those thieves was saved by the Lord. Did that thief have time to get off the cross and get baptized? No way. But the Lord told him, this day shalt thou be with me in paradise. That thief was saved by the Lord without water baptism.

If you were baptizes and did not accept Jesus as your personal Savior before your baptism... What did you get baptized for to begin with. All you did was get wet for nothing. You must be born again first before you become baptized in a Chruch. If you never accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, but got dunked into the baptismal where ever it took place, you are still spritually lost.

I am not sure of your question. Do you "feel" that you are lost. We can not go on feelings. You may wake up with the flu one day and "feel" you are not saved because you feel bad. The faith in your salvation is witnessed to by the Holy Spirit and you have to trust Him. Satan will lie to you and say you are still lost but don't believe Him. Continue in your walk with God and listen to Him.

Baptism is just a symbol and representation of your salvation. It's your public proclamation of your faith in Christ. But, some people don't truly accept Christ as their Savior and yet are baptized anyways. They do it to follow the crowd (such as in younger children), because they think they know what they're doing, or just to try to do something good. Baptism doesn't guarantee salvation and salvation doesn't require baptism, although baptism is a very good idea.

Yes, absolutely.
No matter what religion you are baptized into, you can still have a poor sense of direction.
Especially in a busy shopping mall.

yes, baptism will not save you.
The Bible says that you must be "born again" or "born of the Spirit" to be saved.
John 3: The Words of Jesus Christ (God in the flesh)
3. "Verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
4. Nicodemus saith unto Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
5. Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."
6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
16. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18. He that believeth on Him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

According to the Bible, you are not saved through baptism. You are saved through a personal relationship with Jesus. When you prayed the prayer of salvation (your own words asking Jesus into your heart) and you MEANT it, you were acknowledged by the Holy Spirit as someone who is not lost. Baptism is simply an outward expression (symbolism, if you will) of your decision to leave your old self-sufficient life behind and to follow Christ.

Baptism is just a symbol of a contract you made with God to do his will. If you cease doing his will and begin to do your own, you can definately be lost.
