The school my brother goes to is kinda strict, cuz if you dont learn how to tie your shoes at the age of six, you cant go to school, they make him take days off school. which i think is kinda rude.

Most people learn to tie their shoes using one method, but there is another method which may be easier for some people. I will try to describe it.

The usual way: Tie an overhand knot. Make a loop with one lace;wrap the other lace around and tuck in a loop; pull both loops to tighten

The "other" way : Tie an overhand knot. Make a loop with each lace (like "bunny ears") Tie another overhand knot with the loops and tighten.

To teach either method: have him watch while you demonstrate. Then, have him watch until it is almost done and have him pull the laces tight. do this several times.
Next, have him make the loop (or loops) and tighten. do this several times. Finally, have him tie the overhand knot and do the whole thing. Repeat several times.

You might have to have him do each step more than one day. Always stop with a step he can do successfully.

I taught a 3 year old to tie her own shoes with the second method and I showed a friend who had a class of retarded kids--she taught some of them to do it that way.

It will not be perfect at first, but,if they come undone, it is another chance to practice!!

Good luck with it. Once he learns, he will be so proud of himself ( be sure to make a big fuss over him when he succeeds!)
