My cats eye is red on the corners and very runny and glassy. She is keeping it half closed and it seems to be irritating her. Anything I can do at home or does she need a vet?

Sounds like your kitten has URI. Upper Respiratory Infection. A very common health problem for kittens. Keep a very close eye on your kitten's eye. You will have to clean it constantly. Every now and then, puss will build up. You will have to boil up some salt water, wait until it cools down a little so it won't hurt the little one and wash out the eye. Be very careful not to get any water in the kittens eye. You can go to the vet and buy a cream but it's better to let the kitten's system fight it on it's own with help from you. It is very important to keep the eye clean. If you don't, the kitten can lose the eye and possibly die.

My cat has the same problem which is caused by the feline herpes virus. Usually when it flares up he will also sneeze a lot and his nose will be runny. My vet prescribed a topical medicine that comes in a tube to be put in his eye when this occurs. If I were you I would take your cat into the vet. After the 1st day of using the medicine in my cat's eye the symptoms become much better.

How long has this been going on? If it's only been an hour or two, she may just have something in her eye that is irritating, and it may wash out on its own. If it's been going on for a long while, please take her to the vet. Vision isn't something you want to mess with!

If she would sit still for an eye wash (just saline solution) for you, you can try that. I don't know any cat that would allow that, though!

Good luck.

I would recommend that your cat see her vet, her eye is obviously painful and the eyes are sensitive and can be damaged very easily. Please see your vet. Good Luck.
