How is the Dailai lama located, and identified after his rebirth?

Usually a "tulku" or person who chooses to take rebirth will leave some kind of message on how they're going to do it and where before they die. After they die, sometimes the body will leave another clue, then the search is on.
When they locate candidates, items from the person's previous life, along with very close-in-similarity items are taken along for the candidate to choose from and if the correct items are chosen without hesitation it's a very auspicious sign. Then the candidate is tested by asking questions and asking the parents about various things surrounding the child's birth, and behaviors.
His Holiness, The Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso) had an auspicious birth. Before he was born his father became very ill and the animals the family owned were dying, etc. When he was born his father "mysteriously" became well again and their fortunes changed and His Holiness himself was said to always want to go off to... Potala or one of the other holy sites (can't remember distinctly at the moment), plus there were other auspicious signs.
Many books about the subject can be found at Snow Lion Publications and other websites... even Wisdom Pubs might have a line of books on it. Hope this helped at least a wee bit.

I am not so sure about that. I guess if you were watch the movie of Dalai Lama, you will find that there is a way. but since I am not as similiar as the Tibet Buddhism. I can't explain to you but you see in the moive, they will ask the little boy to idenitifiy his items too. as far as how long it take, it depends. good that you're interesting in the Buddhism. you can ck out his website. ten years, and sometimes a Dalai Lama might end up either being something else, or going to a different planet.

yet another baby has been born to take his place....did he die? I heard Tony Curtis & Eddie Fisher died & many times 3 generic people who have something in elementary die around the comparable time. They the two have generic daughters, Princess Leah from celeb wars-Carrie Fisher & Jamie Lee Curtis. So i replaced into questioning who might next.
