Sometimes just being available to visit with him might help. It is soothing to have someone there to comfort and distract you from what is going on. You might just ask him what would make him feel better, sometimes it is as simple as that!

I am so sorry to hear that. My grandfather had lung cancer that spread to his stomach and brain and passed away in 1995. He also had trouble eating, not only from the pain but also because of the radiation treatments which caused alot of nausea. Maybe the doctor could prescribe him not only pain meds, but also something to settle his stomach. Other than that, you can make sure he is comfortable ... position, temperature, etc. Most importantly, make sure that he stays hydrated. If he can't eat, he needs to drink plenty of water.

I know that this probably isn't anything that you haven't thought of before. My grandfather didn't respond well to the pain meds, either ... and he had a prescription for morphine. The best advice would be to discuss your concerns with his oncologist. If he's not able to eat at home, there's always he chance he might have to be hospitalized so that he can receive nutrition either through and IV or a tube. Another good idea is (and talk to the doctor about this first) buying him a multi-vitamin to take everday along with his medicine. Encourage him to try to eat bland foods in small portions ... broth, crackers, toast. These things may settle more easily on his stomach. Good luck and I will be praying about your situation!

You dont say what type of cancer so thats hard to answer f its thyroid or esophagael putting an ng tube might be an option.Once they find out what stage hes in the dr will probably discuss his treatment and pain medication that he can be put on to control his pain. It will probably take a couple of tries before they get the levels right as far as his pain meds.Good luck its not easy my grandmother had breast cancer its very hard to see someone u love going through that.

He needs to go back to his oncologist so that they can get his pain under control. There is little need for patients to suffer in this way. If he is in a hospital there should be a Pain Management team to help him.

Here are some pain managing guidelines;

I know a remedy that worked for my mother-in-law's ovarian cancer. It relaxed her and helped her get her appetite back, but it is not legal. It actually kept her laughing while when she was slowly dying. I'm not comfortable saying any more. This happened 9 years ago. It can be used in cooking, of course, if using it by another method is not feasible.
