I know one of the defaults with DLP TVs is that the screen can get a image burn if it is on the same screen for a long time. For example, it I left the TV on with the Playstation on pause, nothing on the screen is moving. How long does it take for the TV to develop a screen burn? Are we talking hours, days, weeks? Thanks!

Yes, you can in fact permanently burn an image on a RPTV and it's not all that difficult. Your average playing will pose little threat to your screen and this goes for just watching TV as well even with those annoying little logos in the corner. BUT...you can indeed mess things up with extended, non stop play such as an all day(or night) session without changing background. These marathon sessions are deadly and the main cause of oh so many ghost images.
Sure, you figure that you don't do it often, right up till its a weekend and the weather makes even opening the door seem dangerous. Yup, that handy gaming console is there, waiting to take you away from the boredom and immersing you into the realm of your choosing. Or perhaps you're an XBox guy and are as addicted to Live as every other died in the wool gamer lucky enough to have this most excellent system. Suddenly those hours just fade away as you trounce one Noob after another.
The next day, once the crust has been scraped from those eyes and your energy renewed by a healthy dose or three of sugar cereal you notice, well, something in your screen's corners, a subtle shifting in color on your cartoons. YIKES, IT'S A BURN !!! That's all it takes, about 10 hours of uninterupted image portrayal before the image stares at you each and every time you hit the on button. And don't think you're alone in the nightmare as EVERY set, be it DLP, LCD or Plasma will suffer the same fate when so abused though Plasma will burn the fastest and despite what the so called 'experts' down at Best Buy or Circuit City will tell you LCD will indeed take a set image under such circumstances.
Now what can you do to prevent this? Simple, just change up your viewing and playing habits. Play for no longer than 8 hours at any stretch then simply watch sime TV. That's it! This will keep the phosphers from taking a set and your screen will remain free of ghost traces. There are methods for minimizing or even erasing such ghosts but that's food for another answer and another time. Hope this helps and happy gaming

DLPs don't experience burn in. Don't really know what the last guy was rambling on about forever and ever, I stopped reading midway through, but just to be clear, DLPs do not have a problem with burn in.

as far as i know dlps dont burn in. at all. so look up some more info. for direct answers go to texasinstruments.com they invented dlp so i think their site can answer you
