As long as you are planning to give your parakeet a lot of attention and love, you don't have to get another bird. Keep the bird in your bedroom or in the room that you spend the most time in so that you can talk to it while you work. If go out, put on the radio or tv so it won't feel as lonely. I don't really think putting your hamster next to your parakeet would have much of an effect.

Parakeets thrive alone, just be sure you give the bird attention and toys. No mirrors. If a bird has another bird around, or a mirror bird, they get mean and can bite and hiss at humans. As far as the hamster, NO. You could give the poor things a heart attack. You don't see them playing together in the wild! Your bird will look to you as it's flock. Give your bird lots of love and attention and toys.

Move it's cage to other locations occasionally, play with the bird, train the bird, play music for the bird, and let it watch some TV. Rotate its toys. If you integrate the bird into your human flock, then another bird is unnecessary. Have a great year and develop a great relationship with your parakeet.

In my adventure, parakeets do extra useful in even numbers with an equivalent male to woman ratio so as that they are in a position to style pairs. in case you understand your parakeets gender, try in uncomplicated terms getting between the different gender. objective for comparable length and age if in any respect conceivable. And confident, in case you probably did no longer improve the cage, the unique parakeet would experience that his area is being intruded upon. Get a sparkling, bigger cage, and introduce the hot and unique parakeet to it on the comparable time. there may well be some bickering earlier each and every thing, yet till there is surely injury being completed, enable them to establish themselves earlier you do something. in spite of the undeniable fact that, if absolutely everyone seems to be being extremely aggressive and harming the different, separate them on the instant.

well, now.....you are right in thinking that it sounds stupid to put the hamster and the bird side by side and think they will keep each other company....
you need to spend time with the bird, and train the bird to come onto your hand, and shoulder...and to come to you when called...have little treats for the bird,,,and when s/he comes to you, or listens to you,,then the bird gets a treat..soon, s/he will see you as the leader of the flock, and you will be "mommy"
watch out for ear rings, though, because the parakeet will more than likely start to play with ear rings and other jewelery, since they go after shiny things....just like kids...
be patient and enjoy your bird...you don't need another one, just need to train this one.
ENJOY

The hamster won't keep him company. Just spend a lot of time with him. Maybe keep music playing or the tv on while you're gone. And give him a couple complicated bird toys if you don't already have any.

You're fine with one Bird, spend lots of time with him (or her not too sure) and he will start to bond with you.

When you have to leave him alone during the day turn on a radio softly so he isn't in silence which means danger to a bird (and other animals)

Also toys will bells in are a treat which they can see as another bird. The cat balls work a treat, you can hang them up or let him kick them around the cage.

i have parakeets, lovebirds and a guinea pig. i don't think your idea is stupid at all, the parakeets and lovebirds all like to sit on the piggiess cage to check him out and the piggie really likes it!!!! he gets sooooooo excited. he stands on his back legs to sniff the birds and they let him. if you spend enough time with your bird, he will be just fine. he will even bond better with you. did you know that with enough time and patience, they can talk. enjoy him now, and maybe even try to teach him some tricks and your mom will come around. my husband didn't want any pets and now we are getting an amazon!!!!

Well, I don't think I would try to introduce your parakeet and your hamster.... they aren't exactly compatible species...

Perhaps you should just try to give your parakeet more personal attention. As long as he isn't lonely and neglected, he should be just fine.

I think that's a good idea they won't be lonely cause they will see each other so they could be like two peas in a pod after a while
Good Luck!
