There have been a huge amount of changes: added and removed many programs, applications, bookmarks, files, data, etc. What is Sys Restore referring to? It takes about 20 minutes to scan the pc, and then the "no changes made" message appears.

Also, the Dell Support 3.2 programs tells me no restore points are being created, but when I open Sys Restore to create manual points, there are many system created points saved. I don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall XPSP2, but if it is the only way to be safe, I will. What should I do?

I am so greatful to the wizards out there that have been very generous with your knowledge to guide someone such as myself, who really is self taught and struggling.
I read constantly and scour tech forums, etc. for information. The more I learn, the less I know is truer
for pc literacy than anything I have encountered...it is daunting, but I love it. The world of techs has the best
humans in it!

System Restore is used to roll back the essential Windows settings to an earlier time. Many folks have problems doing a system restore while trying to do it in regular Windows mode. Assuming that there really are some system restore points on hand, try booting the pc into safe mode by tapping the F8 key as the computer starts up. Once in Safe Mode, try doing a system restore again. It should work at that point. If the system does restore, just reboot into regular Windows mode again. Good luck.
