There is one very popular minister in the northeast who has done this. He was rejected by family and religious leaders and a bounty was placed on his head.

Yes, there are sites for ex-muslims to be found on the web, as others have pointed out.

And to tackle your second question, there is real debate in Islam is as to whether leaving Islam does or does not deserve the death penalty automatically.
See the article below (and its companion ones on the same site)
"... Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished... The majority of them ...agree that apostates must be executed." (from the referenced article)

The well-used Islamic phrase "let there be no compulsion in religion" appears not to work in both directions.

Not in the Middle East probably, they would be signing their own death warrant, but even there there are open apostates from rejecting Mohammad to accepting Jesus. In the West there are plenty. You just can't get away with cult killings in the West.

I know several Muslims who converted to Christianity and had to flee to the U.S. where they act the same way about Christianity as the Muslims act about their stupid religion. They tolerate no criticism of their deeply held misconceptions regardless of what they are. It seems to be a societal form of chauvinism.

In many Middle Eastern countries, converting out of Islam is a crime punishable by death.

I have a friend who is now a Christian - she was Muslim. But her family had to accept her - she lives in France. But they do kill converts to other religions, in other countries.

yes, it has happened. In one case In Israel a palestinian man who became a Christian called his brothers to him and told them he didnt want them to go to jail for killing him so he poured gasoline on himself and lit it... an Israeli soldier saved him and his brothers counted that he died and left him alone

there is even ex terrorists that became Christians, and there is a Christian ex teroorist website they have and a writeup in World Magazine about them

In Africa thousands of muslims become Chrstians every day and Christianity if the fastest growing religion in Islam

yes it has happened in the mid east but its tough and a person following Jesus is really denying themself, taking up their cross and following Jesus

In Islamic nations it is illegal to convert from Islam to anything else and in some cases the nearest relatives are to kill the person, sometimes beheading.

There is a book by a woman convert to Christianity called "I dared to call HIm Father"
There is also a defence of Christianity by "Abdul Salleeb" Abdul Saleeb meaning servant of the cross

it does happen and yes sometimes they are killed
