were snowed in, My cat cut her self pretty bad and I could tell she was in alot of pain. My brother-in-law is a paramedic and he told me that they use an adhesive in the field that is nothing more than sterelized superglue, so I used superglue to on the cut. I wanted to give her something for pain but was afraid. I took her to the vet and was told that the superglue was ok in an emergency such as mine as long as the wound was not very deep. I forgot to ask about the pain meds. What pain meds can I give if I find myself unable to get to a vet quickly?

I wouldn't recommend giving anything human to cats. some simple things for headaches can kill a cat quick.

You can give the homeopathic remedy Arnica at a 30C dose for pain up to three pills a day. It is particularly indicated for pain from bruising or tissue damage. I have it prescribed by my cat's vet and you can buy it in a health food store if they carry homeopathic remedies.

Rescue Remedy is a Bach five-flower essence combination that can be put on the cat's fur if it has sufferred injury, shock or is in pain. That is also available in health food stores.

I use witch hazel to cleanse a cut or small wound. Though it is only mildly anteseptic it does not burn or damage tissue as alcohol or hydrogen peroxide can.

Maybe good things to have on hand for immediate "first aid" until the cat or other animal can get to the vet's.

Superglue actually is fine to use to seal a wound that is not a puncture type wound or a burn of any kind.

As for pain meds there are NO OTC meds that are safe for cats.Cats have different systems and most things are very toxic to them.

Since you live in a remote area it would be advisable to put together a pet first aid kit that contains essentials that you might need if a problem should arise and you couldn't get to a vet. Your vet can help you with the recommended pain meds, anti-diarrehal, anti-nausea, topical ointments, etc that you would need for your pets along with proper doses. I also recommend that you get tape, guaze squares, scissors, cottonballs, peroxide, alcohol swabs, butterfly bandages, guaze wrap, vet wrap and a good book on pet first aid (your vet can recommend one).

f.y.i.-you can use neosporin on your cat so keep a tube handy just for an instance like this just make sure that you dont use the kind that has pain relief in it...also 1/2 of a baby aspirin is ok to give a cat, but they have a much higher threshold for pain then humans do

I use childrens benadryll with my 5 dogs. I prefer this because it helps them to also relax & rest when injured. I have also used St Joseph's. I am not so sure about cats. Neosporin has Neosporin Pain, which is good for small painful wounds.

I heard that Tylenol or Advil can KILL your pets. I know that some people have given aspirin (like half a pill or less!) to old dogs with arthritis. But you should consult a Vet and not yahoos on Yahoo.

Love it. But for some reason when I was reading this, the cat had the voice of Stewie from Family Guy.
