In answer to your first question, it would depend a lot on what kind of tea and how the paper has been treated. Burning bleached paper gives off hundreds of dangerous chemicals.

In answer to your second question: With over 200 known causes of cancer, this is a difficult question to answer. It is believed that in many cases it is the combination of substances affecting the body that cause cancer rather than just one individual item. So the answer to your question may depend largely upon other lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, and how well you manage stress (#1 factor above all the others for both cancer and heart disease). I would say if you lead a reasonably balanced and healthy lifestyle, you might just be smoking in the way that everyone should...to enhance your life rather than destroy it.

In the end, it really is a guessing game though. Only you know if the pleasure you get (social, physical, psychological) from a foray into smoking once every 3 months is worth the small risk you may be taking of adding to cancer risk factors in a small way.

Well, even lifetime smokers don't always get cancer.

Technically breathing in any smoke can be bad for you.

You can get cancer from smoking one cigeratte but it's unlikely. The more you smoke, the better your chances are, but once every three months couldn't be much worse then living with the air quality of say Los Angeles.

People who say you smoke at all and you become addicted sound like they are 12 years old and probably never have smoked before.

My grandfather smoked one cigar, one cigarette, and once from a pipe everyday and never got cancer and lived to be almost 97.

Everybody knows that smoking 2 packs a day isn't good for you, but so are a lot of other things.

1st answer: any form of smoking is still smoking. so, smoking tea is still dangerous for your lungs. long term use can cause cancer.

2nd answer: it's okay if you smoke once every 3 months. but the question is, for the rest of the time, are you surrounded with friends or people who smoke? I am asking this because we all know that 2nd hand smoking is more dangerous. it can cause cancer too.

I dont think its as bad for you as smoking like three times a day. Any type of smoking brings carsinagines into your lungs. I smoke but the way i look at it... baring any other diseases or whatever were all going to get cancer sooner or later anyway. Mutation of the cells happens as you get older, and just about everything causes cancer.

#2 I think smoking EVER is bad and will cause cancer. Eventually everyone gets addicted to smoking, no matter how infrequently you start out. It's really not worth it...sorry ex-smoker here. you can hate me if you want but I've seen it so many times: social smokers turned into addicts. Good luck to you

You can get cancer even if you never smoked. I have never heard of smoking tea....that is a new one on me.

I doubt that "dont want answers like 'DONT SMOKE!!!'" will work. Anti-smokers can't stop themselves.
