I am 26 and I recently got a BS in Security Management. Security is fairly good industry to get into right now. But I’ve always wanted to try out for army special forces. I want my resume to look good. But I am so conflicted. War is not something I want to experience. I've always wanted to be a warrior or a samurai but not a solider. According to Sun Tzu's art of warfare, a warrior is not a war monger but rather a wise, peaceful person with a humble heart. I want to become this man!! I consider my self to be a person with a good heart and strong sense of morality. It’s weird; I want to be deadly with a sword, but let the sword be the last resort, metaphorically speaking of course. My family is liberally against military service and just like them I don’t agree with the mission in Iraq. If I join I’ll be the black sheep of the family and I’ll feel selfish in some way. But I know I have what it takes to join the ranks of the spec ops community.

Well, first off you seem like a smart young man and if special op's is what you're looking at I hope you don't plan on having a family. It's extremely time-consuming. You don't have to join the Army you can always go in as an officer in the Air Force. But the chances of you deploying as an officer in the Army isn't too high if the US is sincere about pulling out on Iraq in 08'. The choice is yours though, good luck.

Go with what you want to do. I have been in the military for 21 years, and I wouldn't trade one of those days for a month of better days as a civilian. Having a BS I would explore the Air Force first, they have some Special Ops programs that many do not know about. I would think twice about being an officer going in, I had a buddy that went in as an officer, they put him where they wanted him, he was nothing more than a dept head. The Air Force has a great security Forces. (Law Enforcement) program as well

All Military personell are Warriors......They are traind to do a job and that job consists of Breaking things and killing people.
Besides the above, our military is one of the most kind and considerate groupd. They offer aid, medical and infrstructur rebuilding to make life more bearable for the ones most affected by war....civilians.
Go for it!!! Don't concern yourself with others opinions. Live YOUR life your way. If you feel you can offer the military something good, you will get good from your experience.
Not all Warriors fight...some support those that do. For evry 1 soldier on the front lines, there are 7 soldiers supporting him in the rear, with the ammo, mail, payrole, religion, medical, food, etc...

Mixing Eastern thought with Western values will not work. Don't join the Army if this is the way you think.
