I want to run another tv in my game room off of my hd directv reciever. The run is about 75 feet. I read something about using baluns which convert it to cat 5? Also, if I am already using the HDMI output on my reciever, will the reciever also output in component video simultaneously?

Firstly, MOST receivers keep ALL of their VIDEO outputs active no matter what's going on...Thank goodness for that.

"RG6" coax cable can go OVER 100 feet with 0% signal loss...But you have to turn the "F-connector" into an "RCA" on each end of the cable...And you must have 3 of these creations to make your COMPONENT cable...In fact, I use these MODIFIED "RG6" cables for EVERYTHING in my hometheater.

Whether it's video or audio, the difference is 10 times better than Monster Cable...But be sure to insert your "RCA" connectors into EACH end of your pre-terminated, "F-connected" RG6 with a couple of WRENCHES...Hand-tighening will NOT give you 0% signal loss...Here's a link to click on to see how to start MAKING your OWN cables...(anywhere from 3 feet to 100 feet)

Since component runs only up to 25 ft without significant degradation, I would agree that running CAT5 would be the better option.

But, it's going to cost you to get a converter. I am sure there are cheaper models, but Extron is top of the line that people use for high end home theaters. Check out this link.

As for HDMI, you would need to run that over CAT5 as well. Here is an HDMI to CAT5 converter.

After spending several hundred dollars, you are better off just moving everything to one room or buying another HD receiver.
