There are several different types of terrorists in the world today. The terrorists that we are dealing with in todays situation are Islamic Extremists that is a religious based fundamentalism. Terrorists use 'Terror" to basically terrorize a people into submission by intimidation. Saddam Hussein was a terrorist in his own country because he used extreme measures to "Control" those who opposed him and his regime. The Insurgents use IED's, Car Bombs, and Human Bombs to dismantle the security in Iraq to hopefully discourage the Iraqi people to go against the Coalition Forces. The Iraqi people have more courage now than they did when Saddam was in power and the insurgency is slowly fading. In Belfast, the Terrorists there used bombs as a means of intimidation. In Vietnam, the recruited women & children to gain entry into bases & towns to create suspicion in the allies of the time. Same goes for today in Iraq, You really do not know who the enemy is until they attack. Terrorism creates this suspicion. Then when a women or child is killed for trying to attack US forces, the media portrays it as the US killing an innocent bystander! Terrorism is a cowardice way of creating fear and suspicion in everyone and is why we need to combat the terrorism around the world at all costs.

Because they don't have armies to invade countries with, and they see themselves as greatly wronged - so have to take military action. It's kind of like the French resistance - for the Nazis and their collaboraters they were terrorists who blew up bridges and killed soldiers. This was because the free French army couldn't be in France at that time, so the 'terrorists' had to find a different way of hurting their enemy.
Those who seek to use terror against the west see us as corrupt and morally bankrupt, and who seek to invade other countries (countries they would see as brothers - the US would take it pretty badly if someone invaded Ireland for instance), and kill their civilians to get what they want, be it oil, revenge or to prove a political point. Some may see it as a religious war between Islam and Christianity - but most see it as a struggle between agressors and those wrongfully invaded.
Either all religions preach peace, or all preach violence. You can find incredibly violent passages in the Bible without much trouble - calling for rape victims to be executed, those who do not worship the Christian God to be invaded and slaughtered, etc - just as you can find such passages in the Qur'an. But Christianity as a whole is peaceful, as is Islam.

Hmmm. This question is politically charged.
"Terrorists" (as we are taught to call them) do bad things to get the leaders of powerful countries to listen to them and do what they want. (Stop being a super-power and trying to control the world and all it's resources.)
The military of the United States (and the allies that have chosen to aid them) do bad things to other countries to get the leaders of countries that have something we want (oil, energy, trade deals, etc) to listen to them and do what they want. (Let them be a superpower that can consume all the world's resources.)
So, they are terrorists in that they terrify you. You are afraid that if you shop at the mall, work in a large corporate building, or spend your American dollars on travel, that they will harm you.
The US are terrorists too, because the citizens of the countries we invade are terrified that we will bomb their cities, road block food supplies, cut off their trade with other countries, make life impossible or just out and out kill.
You are right to say that the religious overtones are wrong.
Somehow, they think that their God is telling them that this is right. I am not sure how that could be.
Somehow the leader of the United States thinks that his God is telling him that this is right. I am not sure how that could be.

Muslims are offended when they perform terrorist acts and then are branded as terrorists. The reason they are offended is that they underrate the average person's intelligence.
The terrorists are the Arab Muslims who blow themselves up in Israeli restaurants and who fire rockets at Israeli civilians.
The ones who fight back against the terrorists are the protectors of freedom and democracy. They act in self-defense.
The Muslims will not disapprove of terrorism, because they regard it as their most effective weapon in Islamizing the entire world.

They are not powerful enough to have their own country, so they spread out like wildfire all over the world, and reak havock against anyone that doesn't belive in Islam and their way. They are true phsyco's with motives of only hurting the free world. Screw them, they will all die off soon as we continue to "smoke" them out of their holes, and keep pressure on their finances. We will prevail!

because their religion and all things in what they believe tells them to do so, but it's not only religion, it is territory too, Israel was Muslim territory and they want it back in their hands, and it have even political reasons, fight the "crusaders" makes them to be loved among their people, and that means power, there are much reasons, but religion is the main reason

Most of them do it just to do it. Some of them think they are doing God's work, some think they are fighting for some sort of cause, some think they are fighting for their country..and a lot are are just talked into it by people they respect or look up to, and want to be a part of something.

If the terrorists did not terrorize, then they would not be terrorists. So they have to terrorize just to keep the name terrorists, its in their union contract.

You may wish to look at it from a different perspective... One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. It all depends on which side of the situation you're on.
