Ther are programes caleed AlAnon for the families of alcoholics. Ther isn't really much you can do for your dad except pray for him. You can look in your phonebook for the hotline number to Alcoholics Annonomous and you can find where they hold there meetings and attend one and while you are there pick out a few of there free pamphlets about alcoholism. Read a few to pick the one's you want and take them home and put one by your dad's chair, another one on the dash board of his car one on his side of the bed or in any other various places where he can see them. They may make him angrey but, keep putting them around the house where he can see them. You don't have to let him know your the one putting them there unless you want to. Either way also get the the number for Alanon meetings, you may ask the hotline number, but get that help and start taking care of yourself. God Bless you.

My dad was one too. There is nothing you can do about this disease. It is up to him. they don't quit until they get ready which unfortunately most of the time is when they hit bottom. He can go to treatment center by the dozens but until he is ready to quit, he will go right back to drinking.
Take the car keys and hide them when he is dunk.
Don't argue with him when he is drunk, you will not win.
I feel so sorry for you and your mom. This drug should be illegal.
The best way for you to deal with it is to tell yourself everyday, I will not drink because kids of alcoholics have the same tendancy to want to drink. Like father , like kids.
By the way, I don't drink and I am so thankful I don't.
Be safe.

You and your mom can help if you want to.
Make a plan to help him quit. Talk to him, it's gonna be hard in the beginning but it might work. See what makes him wanna get drunk (maybe pressure) help him deal with it. tell him you love him and you don't want to see him ruining his life and yours
if you don't feel like helping, get out of the house every time he gets drunk or lock yourself in your bedroom and do something, and tell your mom to avoid him. Eventually, that will also help him stop :)

You and your mom should take out all the achohol in the house and pour it down the drain. every bit of it. then call AA ( achoholics anyonomus) or alalon. You and your mom could also go to some local bars, tell them about your dad and either ban him from the bar or to not give him SO much to drink. That idea may seem weird but i could really help.
I hope your dad gets better and i will add him too my prayers tonight!!
I hope my advice also helped alot. I am there for ya gal!

Honestly there's nothing you can do. He has to realize that he has a problem before he can be helped. My advice would to be to stay out of the way and be there for your mom as much as you can. And try not to give her too much trouble because this is causing her a lot of stress to. Pray for him, and I will pray for you and your family's situation.

have you told him how it makes you feel? really had a good heart to heart with him, to see the emotional reaction he gives you...?? sometimes for a person to realise they are hurting those around them, they need to fall hard.. basically your mum has to be strong and give your dad an ultimatum, to either lose the drink or lose his family, he needs to understand what he has to lose, try get him to a doctors for a health check up see what the alcohol has done to his health, then get signed onto an AA group.. if he doesnt quit drinking you and your mum need to leave and start a fresh life, till he quites the drink. Just stay strong, and tell your mum to put her foot down, cause its really starting to affect you and your education.

You and your mother should consider Alanon as it will help you both to cope with him as well as yourselves! You have to realize that his behavior is his fault and you and your mom's behavior s are your own doings and Alanon will teach you not to play into any of his behavior. Good Luck!!
