You'll need to take a formal Driver's Education program. This will take at least 6 months under the new TX licensing laws for teens.
If you don't do the formal Driver's Ed method you'll have to wait until you're 18. No way around that in TX any more.
IMHO, TX now has one of the best graduated licensing programs in the country. Quite a change from the days when any 14 year old kid could go to the DPS, claim to live on a farm or ranch, and get a license.
Here's a link to the details: http://www.dmv.org/tx-texas/teen-drivers.php
Good luck, and safe driving!

You can get it in less than a year.
In Texas, you need to get the permit first. You have to pass the written test, and turn in a form. There is a form that must be filled out from your SCHOOL, that says you have a good attendance record. If you skip more than 5 classes a semester, the school will not sign the form, and you cannot get your permit. If you dropped out of school, and don't have your ged, you cannot get your permit.
If you're under 18, you can test for your license after you've had your permit for 6 months.

Well you can take Driver's ED in high school and then get your permit leading to your license because you may not know everything about the road etc.

some states won't enable you to get your license until now 18 while you're actually not a excessive college graduate (i think Florida is one). Congratulations on chucking up the sponge with the aid of how, i think you would be suckling off the federal teat now? Oh, of direction not, you will write back approximately hardships, and helping your loved ones, and how complicated existence is, boo hoo hoo. added information: oooh, nailed it.

Go on Texas' Drivers Bureau website. That'll tell you.
Each state is different.
