I'm a fraternal twin, six minutes older. My twin is my sister.

All my life I've heard all sorts of junk about how having a twin is so great, and this is making me feel really guilty.

I'm the exact opposite of my twin and I hate her. I'm skinny, she's an emotional eater. I'm logical, she wears her heart on her sleeve. I have outstanding willpower, she has none. I don't like much physical contact, she can't live without it. I'm neat, she's a slob. This is a real problem since we share a small bedroom and her job is keeping it clean -as in I get grounded if I clean my room-.

People keep telling me that having a twin is a blessing or sh*t like that. I've never met another set of twins to talk about this with, so I'm coming on here.

Does anyone else have a similar relationship with their twin? Insight, advice, that sort of thing? Or for normies, what do you think about being a twin?

I am an identical twin. My sister is a lot like me in many ways, but not in all ways. We act more like fraternal twins.

I am sure it is difficult to have people tell you how great it must be to have a twin --like you are joined at the hip or something.

When my sister and I were very young, my mother made the decision, based on advice from someone, to treat us like any other siblings --not as half of a pair. We were never expected to dress alike ( although we often had the same outfit in different colors), we were deliberately put in different classes throughout much of our school years, and we had many classmates who did not know we had a twin. That was really great ! We felt sorry for twins who felt they were only half of a pair and not an individual.

You are entitled to your feelings. It would be better, however, if you could accept each other's differences. Don't feel guilty that you don't get along with your sister -- just try to tolerate her as you would any other sibling.

Chances are, when you are adults and don't have people around you telling you how you SHOULD feel, you will get along much better.

I don't think you should feel guilty at all. Some people just do not have much in common with their siblings. Just because you are a twin does not mean that you are automatically going to like the same things and be the best of friends.
As long as you guys tolerate eachother and will probably appreciate one another a lot more when you get older just like most siblings feel about eachother when they grow up...whether they are twins or not.
I always thought it would be super cool to have a twin, but everyone thinks it must be cool to have an older brother like I have and we used to not get along very well. So I guess we have to be happy with what we have and make the best out of it! Have fun with your sister and remember you're family...that is enough to have in common, really.

My best friend has a twin brother...they don't get along very well. they like it best when they are apart. Also i know some twins from school...they seem like good friends. they hang out with the same people and sometimes dress alike.

You should just talk to your twin about this. You say, "Hey, twinny, you know I like having you around but sometimes you get on my nerves because you don't clean, I'm always cleaning you know and........" You tell her, your other problems, she probably understand it and change.

I don't have a twin brother or sister. But I think it would be interesting if I did.
