I think about this, too...I'm not sure it's for everyone, but personally I like the fact that my husband would want to show his care and concern for me to make it real. (not whiny or naggy)
There are just some of us that are attracted to this kind of thing. Real and normal people. And no, I was not abused as a child. (I get this question a lot when I voice my thinking on this.)
Anyway, there are still laws on the books that say where and when a husband may spank his wife.
I think there is a difference between spanking and abuse, or else why would it be categorized linguistically as different things? We don't have a word for hitting someone on any other part of the body but the butt. (Sorry, I couldn't help the pun.) The butt is made to be a cushion and can withstand pain.
Of course, I'm posting this answer with the assumptions that people have common sense. I've been slapped on the leg when a bf reacted to me in anger. That was not spanking. That was abuse, and was not tolerated.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Why does everyone have such an issue with spanking?!!? There are times when it's appropriate and times when it isn't. If you spank a child that won't listen to you, you aren't modeling violence you are communicating boundaries! I'm very confused as to why, all of the sudden, we are afraid to remind our children(from time to time)who's in charge when they so desperately need to be reminded! I do spank my child for egregious behavior. The only time it is considered violent and absolutely inappropriate is when you spank a child out of anger. But when it's calm and deliberate, than it is a very important and effective discipline tool. But, you and your husband need to get on the same page b/c it will be awful if YOU become the bad guy b/c you do the spanking. If you decide to not spank and just do time outs, then try being consistent...even if you're at a store. I have even taken my son to the car and done a time-out in there! It means a few empty grocery carts, but worth it! Good luck!

Once you become an adult, you can go to jail if you do something wrong. That is why we spank our kids. We DO NOT want them going to jail. If you can't follow the rules set in the house, you have to be punished. Same in the real world, you don't follow the rules, you get punished. But as for a husband "spanking" his wife that is stupid.

lols. thats where wife beaters came from -___-. True, they used to be able to hit their wives, now it truly is illegal. Children are a whole other story. You may not see it but it is true. They have the right to spank the children, its their way to teach them or to discipline them. Unless you're like an alcoholic or something... and ur hitting ur children forr fun thats just wrong. -__-

we spank our children because they dont understand. our children need to be taught consequences at a period in their lives where they dont understand what they have done is wrong and we cant reason with them.
You cannot say this about an adult.
And what do you mean by "STILL be able to spank their wives". I wasnt aware this was ever acceptable in civilised society.

Only if she can spank you for coming home late, not asking for directions when lost, and for asking really stupid questions like this one.

No, that is a control issue and signs of an abusive relationship. If this is happening in your family, please seek help from someone be it a guidance counselor at school, someone in your church or calling a domestic violence hot line. Here is a toll free number for one 1-800-799-7233. Please be careful.
