and she is 18 years old. When Im at work or sleeping she has her minor friends come over and they drink in my house and then i find the booze bottles either on the counters the bar or in the trash. Im not stupid, but when I go to confront them about having minors drink in the house i get "Well I pay rent" thrown in my face. I don't care if she has friends over, but im not going to be held responsible for having them drink in my house, and being the property owner i would definately get in trouble that and the fact that im over 21. How can i talk to her without having an argument so that i don't have minors in my house drinking?

There is really no way to stop this with out a fight she is under the misguided idea that paying rent on a place means that you can do what you want this is not true as many of us know. You also need to let her know what she is setting you up for if someone decides to call the cops or one of her friends parents gets so mad they turn you in not only will you go to jail but there maybe different laws set up in your state that make it so she and her friends are punished also. in the end though none of this will matter if she cared at all once you told her she would have stopped so what you need to do is A keep no liquor in your house or put it in your room and then lay down the law tell here you do pay rent but like all landlords and tenants there are some rules because if she wants to say well iam a renter so i can do what i want then you need to say and i am a landlord and i can have rules and then lay it down and explain that you will not have underage drinking in your house and that's it! most apartments have rules for stuff like this as well as party's music parking stay over guest etc so if she wants to throw out the renters card then throw down the landlord card! good luck

WELL YOU ARE THE ADULT AND YOU CAN SAY WHAT YOU
WANT. JUST BECAUSE SHE IS PAYING RENT DOESN'T GIVE
HER THE RIGHT TO BREAK THE RULE'S. SHE IS NOT ALLOWED TO BRING UNDER AGE DRINKERS INTO YOUR
PLACE TO DRINK AND IF SHE DOESN'T LIKE IT THEN SHE CAN GET HER OWN PLACE TO LIVE. IF SHE CAN PAY RENT THERE THEN SHE CAN PAY RENT ELSE WHERE, WITH NO
BUTS!!. YOUR HOUSE, YOUR RULES, PUT YOUR FEET DOWN. REMEMBER SHE IS JUST 18 YRS. OLD AND SHE
CAN'T AFFORD IT THEN GO HOME TO MOMMY AND DADDY.
WHY SHOULD YOU GET INTO TROUBLE FOR HER MISTAKE.
I AM 47 AND I HAVE A NEPHEW THAT LIVES WITH ME AND
IT IS MY RULES ALL THE WAY I DON'T CARE IF HE IS HELPING WITH THE BILL'S. HELL NO I WILL NEVER LET HIM
BRING HIS FRIENDS OVER WHILE I AM ASLEEP AND HAVE
A GET TOGETHER AND DRINK AND SMOKE ( WHETHER
IT WAS CIGARETTES OR WEED) HELL NO. SO LIKE YOU SAID YOU ARE THE ADULT. SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO GO
BY YOUR RULE'S AND SHE IS RIGHT, SO THERE FOR, ALL
SHE HAS TO DO IS MOVE OUT. BUT IF SHE WANT A PLACE TO STAY THEN SHE WILL RESPECT YOU AND THE PLACE
AND ONLY TAKE OVER JUST HER BOY-FRIEND AND THAT
IS THAT. END OF STORY.

First its your home . Second your her older brother. By all she has to respect you and your wishes. If she doesn't show her where the front door is ( tuff love ). I am sure that the rent she is paying wouldn't be enough to get her an apt. out in the real world.

Just tell her how it is. My house, my rules, or leave.
