Yes, race winners will earn more points and the chase field will be expanded. Announced, but no specifics.
NASCAR isn’t commenting beyond spokesman Jim Hunter’s statement Thursday that the Chase for the Nextel Cup will include more than 10 drivers this year.
But Speedway Motorsports Inc. president Bruton Smith hinted Friday the new number could be 12.
“I think you can look for 12, but that’s just my opinion,” Smith said on Sirius Satellite Radio’s new NASCAR channel.
Smith also said he believes the winner of each race will get an additional 10 points in the changes expected to be announced later this month.

As of now nothing is official, but NASCAR said that they were going to make changes in the chase system and change the points system slightly. NASCAR will probably give more points for a win.
To the person below:
Do you realize how much engineers play in NASCAR? You can't be completly uneduated and have a good team, because today good engineers are critical. Certiantly NASCAR is more of an "educated" sport than football or baseball, you don't need engineers for those sports, do you? And the drivers have to know about cars too, or else they won't be able to tell the crew an accurate description of how the car in handling.
Sorry, but I just hate it when people bash something when they obviously know nothing about it.

The only change that makes any sense to me would be allowing the previous season's champion a bye into the Chase for the Cup. It is not likely to be used often, but in some cases could have a big effect on things. (just ask Tony Stewart).
More points for a win and perhaps a 5 or 10 point bonus for the pole sitter are the only things I would change in the points system. Who knows with those $$ counters in NASCAR though, if there is a way to make an extra dime, they will latch onto it.

They're talking about it, from what I read last week, but they have not released details as far as I know.
From what I read, they're looking to increase the number of points awarded for a win, which is IMHO a great idea - it puts more emphasis on winning individual races rather than "big picture" racing, which I think is awesome.

there's no longer something NASCAR can exchange to maintain the 40 8 from atop the standings.they'll nonetheless be the team to conquer with or with out the Chase.BTW,i like your avatar traV,Breaking Benjamin kicks a$$ and so does their new album!!!!
