7 years apart

The "simple" answer is an "average" dog year is the equivalent of 7 "average" human years.
However, smaller breed dogs tend to live longer than larger breeds, and they mature far more quckly than humans. I found a chart some time ago that looks like this:

.................Equiv. Age........Equiv. Age
Actual Age Smaller Breed Larger Breed
1 15 12
2 24 19
3 28 26
4 32 33
5 36 40
6 40 47
7 44 54
8 48 61
9 52 68
10 56 75
11 60 82
12 64 89
13 68 96
14 72 103
15 76 110

Most people think 7. My vet on the other hand told me that this isn't always true. The smaller breed the dog is, the fewer amount of years you add. For example...a Pug is closer to 4 years per every 1 human year. A Lab would be closer to 7 year per every 1 human year.

The standard rule of thumb is 1 : 7. In other words, a dog is seven years old to each of a human's one year.

Example: If a dog is five years old in human years, you multiply seven times five. The dog would be 35 years old in dog years.

Make sense? Hope so.

a human year =7 dog years so if a dog is 3 in human years he is 21 in dog years (give it some wine to celebrate and take it to a casino!)

well from looking into it myself i have found that no one really agrees on how exactly dogs age but they live about 14 years total give or take a few so it is considered that dogs age many human years within only a few years of their lives you can probably search the internet and get opinions off of different pages out there and come to your own conclusion
